Andy, what does your Pomp look like now?
-
• #4053
I had the on one external set on my last pompino, and apart from one of the arms coming off once, it was fine!
That sounds a bit scary and dangerous. Was it a crank or installation issue?
-
• #4054
They've got those opposing bolts like on Shimano hollowtech - and they must have worked loose. I was riding at the time, and thought the cleat was wobbling - went to unclip, and the whole crank came away, still attached to my shoe. Made stopping interesting!
Once re-tightened they never did that again, so I'm chalking it down to experience, rather than an issue with the cranks.

I'm going to check my Shimano ones right now. As they were installed by me and its the first external BB I've used. Don't want to experience that.
-
• #4056
Wouldn't want any cranky issues... Iykwim.

Here she is finally completed.
Pretty please with how it came out.

Thanks for the thoughts on cranks - now to wheels...
Planet X unfortunately sold out of their AL30 D wheelset between me clicking buy and them putting them in the box. £100 was a steal, but now my budget has to rise quite sharply.
Would ideally like all black, with machined sidewalls - Halo Aerotracks perhaps? Also been looking at SJS cycles wheel build with red dia compe 32h, black DT swiss R450 rims and black spokes - but about £270... Ouch!

What about NAVIGATOR STREET from Dolan ? got them on my bike and they are very good.
-
• #4063
Cheers - the Navigators look good too. In searching for the Machs I took another look at the Halo options, and found the Aerorage Track for about £130 from Winstanleys, so plumped for them. Moar black than the other two mentioned!

If you can build wheels, RockAndRoll sell the Tensile 32h Large Flange hubs for £50/pair, SPA sell various Rigida, Exal etc rims for £8 each, and Cyclebasket do ACI DB spokes for 21p each (inc nipple), so that's max £110 inc postage.
Any HHSB/foffa/crate deep-V wheelset in this price range will be heavy as fuck.

Looking back now, I wish I got a pomp a few months ago when I built my bike.

This screams build another bike ;)

Already planning it haha. If I can move my Eastside frameset, then there's no reason not to buy a pomp.

A good looking pomp.

Yeah the new version looks good, it was going to get full guards and a front rack but i think he's selling it if any one is interested...

Looks like a bit of slanty camera and stepped floor are helping cheat an extra few Scoblebricks!

frame and for arrived yesterday. have to say i'm pretty impressed. the blue is nicer than on screen (and to me it already was good looking), securely boxed (kinda expected), and free next day (this i knew i was getting, but still). however, the canti fork bosses are a bit uneven - about 2mm or so difference in height from one another on the fork legs. anyone else received their forks with uneven bosses, will it affect brake set up, any suggestions on what to do?
cheers,
k

• #4073
I don't think it will affect the set up of the cantilevers.

should have mentioned - plan to run mini Vs. will mini vs be a problem?
thanks.

I never checked my bosses. However, don't both mini-V and cantilever brakes have loads of vertical adjustment, my Avid ones certainly do.
Oh, and for those that may have missed it in my OP and are looking to buy a Pomp at the mo, the F+Fs are 'on sale' for £130 from £150. 20quid off. Nice.
