Eddy Merckx Evans reduction - worth a punt?

My beater's going to the dogs, so I'm looking at replacements around this price mark. It's a tasty reduction, I wonder what people's experiences are with these frames or indeed builds.

you'd probably end up spending loads gradually replacing all the white parts with black parts

My god that thing is ugly.

£550 could get you a seriously nice classic track bike. That awful 'lugged' style chainset would have to go, followed by the white chain, white wheels and cheap looking saddle.

I agree it's not a looker (and nothing like the 1972 it claims to be inspired by).

I must say I'm more inclined toward the Condor Pista or even the Genesis Madison. Would also commit minor crimes to get hold of a Bianchi in Chrome, shallow bastard that I am.

Where should I be looking for decent deals on SS rides? Besides the forum of course. I'm 6"1, so I'm not spoilt for choice on Frames and Completes.
