Did you have any luck with this? I've got a similar problem...

EBB are pain to maintain; I'd suggest even if thats not the root of the problem; remove, clean, degrease and regrease anyway. Park tools do a dedicated tool for this.

Dedicated tool? Looks like a pin spanner to me.
You can put something - say a metal rod - in one of the pin spanner holes then turn the cranks until the arm contacts the rod. You can then use the magic of leverage to apply a bit of welly to the EBB with the crank arm. Or scuff up the crank arm / break the metal rod if things really are a mess.

I have a pin spanner with a friend, but haven't been able to have a go at the EBB with it yet. Was wondering if it's possible to remove the EBB assembly entirely from the frame and clean/regrease it. Anyone had a go at that?

Never had to do it with mine. Would suggest removing the fixing bolts and getting liberal with GT40 through the holes.

That was my thought. When I get my pin spanner back I'll give it a whirl and post back some results/pics.

FTFY
is it possible to remove it and grease it
Yes.
1.Remove cranks
- Loosen bolts that hold the EBB in place (under the bb shell).
- Slide EBB insert out to the side.
- Clean/grease/refit.
The bolts that hold the insert in place can chew up the insert. In this case it may be difficult to remove but a dunt from a mallet should get it out. SJS sell replacement Thorn inserts and Ithink they are mostly all the same size, ones that are held by bolts underneath anyway.

I have a problem with my charge mixer eccentric bottom bracket, I am having great difficulty turning it to adjust the chain, my question is, is it possible to remove it and grease it so chain adjustment is easier
