You can put something - say a metal rod - in one of the pin spanner holes then turn the cranks until the arm contacts the rod. You can then use the magic of leverage to apply a bit of welly to the EBB with the crank arm. Or scuff up the crank arm / break the metal rod if things really are a mess.
