Sorry, meant slow film, I know nowt about this photography lark...
-
• #8253
Yeah I don't know, I love vignetting these days
(it's added in post for the most part in this image; the Espio does not vignette much on it's own). How *fast *do you want / need ?
Yeah I had a slight suspicion... it can defo add to a photo but I'd go easy on it...
My hexar only goes to 1/250 or something shutter speed so need some slowwwwwwww film (I think) for this sun light lark.

Yes, if faster shutter speeds are not avaiable, 'slow' film is suitable for bright days.
Best 'budget' film you can get (at least where I live) is Agfa "Vista 200", or Fuji "Fujicolor C200".
-
• #8255
Cheers tina.. after something 100 ish... is that the slowest?
-
• #8256
The ones I mentioned only come in 200, yes.
There used to be a 100 ISO version of Agfa Vista, but I think it's not produced anymore.
Same goes for 'budget' Kodak films ("Kodak Gold" and "Kodak FarbWelt" over here), there used to be ISO 100 versions, usually avaiable in 3-packs, but it's all ISO 200 now. -

Long story short if you really need to shoot budget film with your rather expensive camera, check drugstores.
If you can spend a little more, just get some proper film like Ektar 100. -
• #8258
Never said it had to be cheap! (I dont think...)
Will hunt out some Ektar, cheers! -
• #8259
Boom.. 5 pack ordered... thanks again!

Never said it had to be cheap!
..whoops, sorry, misread your post.
If you can / want to spend money, there's also gorgeous "slow" slide film, like Fuji 'Velvia', which goes down to ISO 50.
Anyways, have good fun with the Ektar, love that film in the summertime,
got a developed roll lying right next to me waiting to be scanned : ] -
• #8261
Awesome.
Yeah I dont usually go for slide anymore.... not sure why... when I was in BC I only shot on slide but that was prob just so we could show off to girls with slide shows in our apartment. -

Grabbed a filmless XA as i left for the Tour on Saturday, only film to be found in Holmfirth was Kodak Gold 200, not a fan of kodak colour...
mostly shitty rolls but one or two i like... oh, i really need to get a 35mm scanner as the supplied scans are pretty horrible.... any tips?

Nice shots!
Maybe check out http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/scanrex.htmSomebody told me all the shut-down one-hour labs in the states are kicking out their (high-speed / automated) 35mm scanners.
I think it was some Kodak product. Apperently they're selling for cheap (as there's so many of them),
only issue being of course a) they're big and b) shipping from the states.
Does anybody have more info on this? -

First roll of Portra 160, bit of a boring roll, think my scans are getting slightly better though. Olympus 35 SP
Won't clog up the thread with crap so the rest are at http://28fixed.com/tag/portra160/

Ive never had anything other than 400 Tri-X in my Hexar, it copes alright with bright sun.

• #8271
Of course it "copes alright", but it does get faster to the camera's limit / overexposure, thus 100 ISO being a good idea if your shutter can only do 1/250s max?

Yeah, run 100iso if you want but I read lots of "oh that camera can't cope with the sun" and "the Hexar is useless in summer" and such and the fact is it's not, it copes very well with bright light and fast(ish) film.
Even when I get the + indicator telling me it's going to be over exposed and I shoot anyway, 9 times out of 10 I get a very useable image.

Tri-x, not the 400TX, the old school tri-x was the best, most forgiving film I've ever used. Stupidly high tolorences and you could develop it with spit and a bar of soap if you wanted to. Push it to 3200 and you still get amazing grain on it. Still got a tiny stash of it about 10 years out if date before I was born, but don't want to waste it.
Colour: superia 1600 but I'm sure pushed cinestill or portra 800 will work.
B&W: ilford Delta 3200
