Thanks, sorry for the user name I have just joined to help stave off the boredom and am feeling a little grumpy! I am a part member of BC via my club Islington but pretty sure
it doesnt extend to legal help. -
• #6
think you need personal
covermembership to qualify for BC legal help.it's a shame if you don't have it, their legal co saw right by me after I got hit by a van. well worth the £30 a year or whatever.

BC legal help is available to Race and Ride level members. Give them a call to check.
Heal up soon.

Thanks, always easier to be wiser after the event but the insurance thing is
so important,I am self employed in the building trade and 3 months with no income before I can work again is freaking me out.
Just one more thing,if anyone else finds them self in the same situation in the same vicinity and in the back of an ambulance heading to Whipps X and you can still hobble, ask them to stop, get a cab and make for the Homerton, the difference in care is amazing,I have been with mates twice in the last year to Whipps after bike/car incidents and although the staff are doing their best they are completely undervalued and shit upon. -

Oof. My self-employed brother is off for 8 weeks because of a pothole - he has legal cover through BTF, but even that's no guarantee.

Another tale of woe here.
Cycled hard all winter to build my fitness in anticipation of a wonderful summer on the bike.
Now 4 weeks into 3 months off with a fractured shoulder courtesy of one of our "superhighways"

Used to go up it all the time, and got creamed by a BMW out riding in Harlow when I was self-employed so have a bit of insight.
It took a year and a half to get settled and I went through the same company the BC use (wasn't a member but used them no-win no fee-the driver was arrested at the scene for dangerous driving though so I don't think the insurer was inclined to argue) but if you're really struggling and liability isn't being disputed the insurer can make an interim payment to cover you until it is fully settled. If you can prove your anticipated/regular income this is far easier.
Short of that you need to harp on at the police, get an incident number, document injuries (pics, hospital times etc) any witness details and open legal procedings as fast as you can so they can help push it along.
Heal fast and good luck!

Where and when did your crash happen, Dan? As this thread is for discussion of the specific incident on Lea Bridge Road, you could post about your crash here. Of course, your good wishes are completely on topic. :) -

Dan,I think I feel pretty much the same as you but all ready thinking of how good that first ride is gonna feel, heal up soon mate,Uber thats great advice ta,there is no issue with liability,so the interim payment is a good possibility,my LBS has given me a number and they sound pretty decent. Thanks all.
Passed by a guy in full roadie kit sprawled on the road at the junction of Russell Road and Lea Bridge Road in Leyton at about 7pm last night. Looked like he'd been left hooked by a new driver (displaying the P in his back window). Another cyclist was looking after him. He was holding his arm, but seemed okay otherwise.
