Forgot to report back - I got the non women specific 41s and they do feel pretty roomy at the toe end; not enough to stop me wearing them but I reckon I probably would be fine with a 40. That said they are different models so it's possible that's the difference (though both MTB shoes). I am also one of those who need giant Sidis compared to normal shoes - I'm usually a 39.
