  • I spend a lot of time bored witless in hotel rooms and travelling, coveting a lot of frames on the forum so I thought I'd use some of that time to put a new build together.

After my Planet X, I knew I wanted a colourful NJS frame but hadn't seen one I liked in my size so a couple of months ago I opted to just buy components and keep my eye out for a frame.

    [Apologies for shit pictures]

First purchase was this bundle from NJS Export:

Next was the hubs. From NJS Export again and the chainring bolts from eBay:

Nitto Seatpost from NJS Export and BB from a pleasant lad in Ireland:

All NJS stamped so far save for the chainring bolts.

Lucky enough to find myself in NYC so I got a couple of bits from Chari & Co:

This DA seatpost came up on eBay at a decent price a couple of weeks ago:

I want to try a bunch of different cockpit setups and have different options 'cause I fancy a go at that track riding thing people have been talking about so I've collected a few stems - all but the Dynamic 8 are NJS stamped:

Two sets of bars so far. Stamped Nitto B125s and some generic sweptback bars I bought in a Kinoko sale but never got round to using:

Not the connoisseurs choice for rims but I have EERO and Archetype so I trust the brand and in terms of looks, I think they're up to the job:

If I'd had the money at the time, I might've had a go at Telescope's Georama but I didn't so... I didn't. I know Patrick is looking to move his Makino but he's not ready to part with it until he has a replacement so that's off the cards too.

Anyway, there were four updates on NJS before anything I really took a shine to came up in my size and within my budget. I was torn between two so I messaged Indra and he cast the deciding vote this morning. Toshi at NJS Export mailed me this today, it was listed as "Black/Rainbow Flake". I can't wait to hold it:

  • Makinos fucking rules...

    I don't want to sell mine :(((

  • subscribed, lovely frame.

  • Sooooo nice! Look forward to seeing this in the flesh at some point

  • Starting to get the NJS fever, lots of nice (semi-)NJS builds lately on the forum...

  • Lovely forks lugs

  • Nice collection of parts there, I wote for sweptback bars and a Pearl for comfort.

  • aw yisss

    Do it!

    Very likely.

  • Do it!

Heh, I'm not even finished on the first non-NJS regular fixie build.

Although NJS builds are somewhat constrained and all very similar, there's some purity and elegance in them, not to mention tried and true uniformity, but even then, details do matter and set them apart.

  • The frame is sick, it must be very nice in person, and with that paint job, not that sensitive regarding other parts.

Reminds me of the car from Death Proof, has that killer vibe :) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1028528/

  • This arrived in the post today...

  • Another micro bundle of stuff from hubjub this morning.
    Risers because risers.
    Self-extracting crank bolts.
Some hubs seals. Gonna replace the old ones after a clean and repack and before I lace them. Seems as though it's easier to service a hub without it being built into a wheel. Correct me if I'm wrong?
Degreaser, half-link, gel strips and shim to bump me over to free shipping minimum keep in spares.
They threw in a multi-tool for free too. It's not very good but the gesture is pleasant.

  • your frame is very interesting, would love to see it in flesh. will you be riding in london when the bike is complete.

  • Cheers Zaurbek.
I will indeed be riding it regularly in London's famous London when it's finished.

  • Private Patterson, I will look out for you on the streets (as soon as I manage to stop this binge drinking and at last go out, have been indoors for ages)

  • Last two pieces of the build, funded by the kind people of LFGSS classifieds. Cheers for that.

DeoreXT pedals because, well, that's what I use.
Concor Supercorsa because the one on Kamal's Bridgestone/Anchor looked amazing.

Just gotta get the hubs serviced and wheels built and chase and give Parcel force a kick up the arse so they give me my frame!

  • Dura Ace stem and some tape. Nothing too exciting.

those bastards kept my Stratos for over two weeks. dont hold your breath!

    Frame arrived this morning!

Any pictures I've taken just don't justify how lovely the paint looks up close.

  • Paselas arrived in the post... One's a 25 and one's a 23. FML.

  • Put the 25 at the back. You won't notice the difference

  • Put the 25 at the back. You won't notice the difference

    That was my plan.
I normally ride with a with a 23 front and a 25/28 rear normally but I wanted the 25c on the front for "porn clearance" photos!!!
