I have 3 bikes running 8s all with later 9/10s wheels and Record cassettes, all work fine. The only problem I had was with a Novatec/ambrosio hub where the locking bottomed out on the freehub bearing when using an 8s cassette, I used a very thin spacer between cassette and freehub to restore free play. If it's not an actual Campag hub, just tighten the locking with caution first time round!
