Fantastic weekend.
I'm not gonna repeat any bitching about boards etc.
I do feel that the rule set needs a serious re-think though (euro committee?) the later stages of Saturday featured some stunning polo with amazing tactics, well thought out plays and incredible individual skill. However, it always seems to dwindle out and favour the triple D, goalie-fuck, retreat, repeat format. Don't get me wrong, there was some lush polo in the final, but the rule set means that it very rarely rewards the team with goals.
So-
Some kind of crease HAS to be introduced- double goalies are just shit.
Mallet contact needs updating. Goalie interference isn't aloud in any other sport and you shouldn't be aloud to chop and hook away at someone's mallet if you've been beaten. A bit of mallet on mallet is needed, but a desperate full stretch hook just below the glove is bollocks.
The NAH rules will almost certainly contain a crease next year. It's not been a priority until now, as it's not a very North American problem (you rarely see true double goalie here). This year we fixed some of our bigger problems (dangerous contact, etc...)
That may or may not affect Europe next year, depending which way the committee decides to go.
