The derailleur looks to be a non slant parallelogram style that are generally not indexable.

I have another build set up with G1 C-record (non slant parallelogram from around 85, 86) and 6 speed syncro shifters, it works great.
Velo base specify in the link above that these derailleurs are compatible with syncro & syncro II.
So non slant parallelogram should not be an issue in general, I'm wondering am Irunning into issues as I'm using 8 speed. -

what gears out of the eight are syncing? and what is the combination on the rear block? and what is the wear on the block? and the chain? and is the front derailleur running the chain freely? and is the chainline central on the block?

synchro shifting requires different inserts depending on gearing and derailleur.
i beleive even the chain made difference...
the inserts came in different colours to see which one you have... -

I think the syncro levers had different ratchet inserts available though they never were that great and I'm not sure they were for anything more than seven speed.
Might be best finding a later mech or using seven speed with the appropriate lever -

Rive gauche, some good questions
-what is the combination on the rear block?
13-23 Campag cassette 8 speed (record i think)-what gears out of the eight are syncing?
The smallest two sync and the chain then does not align on the third smallest/ jumps to the fourth this is where things start to go wrong, happens again around the fifth.
This happens on either of the front chain rings (39t & 53t)-what is the wear on the block?
Cassette is in excellent condition-the chain?
New KMC 7-8 speed chain (for campag)-the front derailleur running the chain freely?
YesIs the chainline central on the block?
Yes; lower 39t ring is directly in line with 5th from bottom ring of cassetteThe chain when on the 39t ring & 13t very lightly rubs off of the inner side of the 53t ring.
I am using a C-record BB & Crankset {8V - 170 [71] } and ringsThe frame i am using is a concorde squadra that originally had a 7 speed dura ace setup. -could the 7 speed original setup be the cause of my problems?
The wheel fits in fine and the frame has not been cold set (rear spacing widened)

Cheers for the info Alpha, as Rustynuts says, I think these inserts are only relevant up to 7 speed. The levers i have are definitely 8 speed.
I am not far off removing these levers and putting on a pair of friction ones. The Indexing would be very nice on this build though and the curved levers are in mint condition. -

That rear mech will NOT work as it went up to 7 speed only. You have the later shifters that will only index correctly with redesigned and dedicated parallelogram rear mechs from approx 1991 onwards
I've PM'd you details

Got it,
off they come so
I have a set of the following shifters

The ones with the little curve at the end and adjuster on the right hand lever.
I have a c record Gen II rear derailleur, like this one.
http://velobase.com/ViewComponent.aspx?ID=424aad00-8afc-4abe-a751-6eec75ad5ad1
It does not have an adjuster barrel.
I think i have tried everything and i cannot get them to sync correctly, its driving me up the wall!
Is this derailleur compatible with 8 speed syncro shifting? It has the reach
Any Suggestions welcome
Cheers
