  • That was an absolutely lovely day out on the bike. Rain was just enough to give it that slightly epic feel without really being uncomfortable. I'm still in awe of the gloveless duo though.Terrific company all round, great work pulling it all together from Bernie and sterling leadership on the road from Branwen. Thanks all for a fine day - looking forward to next year's jaunt already. The glass half full approach says puncture free - so I'm sticking with that.

From my vantage point on the M25, yesterday looked a very fine day for the return leg, most sorry to have missed that and the opportunity to ride with Dumps and Clubman again. next year...

  • I have resurrected my account! I was on the beater with the big speed camera like yellow rucksack.

  • I think that’s how a French sports journalist would describe our pace on Sunday morning, literally: ‘they were hammering along at a lively pace’. At least that’s how it was with Branwen on the front – doubtless a bit slower when it was my turn.

It was a real pleasure to be in a group of riders, all on fixed, all competent enough to stay together. In fact this is what I hoped to get when I started posting on this forum.

It’s true I did a few turns at the front, but I should mention that this didn’t involve a great deal of extra effort because of the tailwind.

So many thanks again to Bernie for organising.

*This should be italicised (foreign language) and there should be an acute accent on the 'a', but I can't make my machine do either of these.

If I'm right in thinking the 'beater' was that light coloured Raleigh then I believe you may have a potential career as a racing man. I would be reluctant to start out on a one way trip to Oxford on that machine, let alone there and back with a bag which, judging by its weight, must have contained the kitchen sink. As they say - chapeau!

BTW: I hope it's not impolite to ask, but I can't help but be puzzled by your forum name: the only BMA I can think of is The British Medical Association.

How flattering, you are too kind! As for my name, I study at UCLH and the BMA used to offer good food to student members for not a lot of money. unfortunately they have put the prices up and taken away the discount (I swiftly cancelled my student membership).

  • Sorry for the delay in getting these snaps up, but safely back from Cambridge ride, and wanted to cap this off.

Thanks again, Gentlemen and Lady, a ride that will not be forgotten for some time.

Oh, and probably my favourite snap...

    "Pissaro?"

"No, I was stone cold sober..."

  • You're right, that has something.

  • Have spent the weekend in Lilliput in glorious sunshine: Port Meadow, the Perch, and a friend's wedding just down the road from the Turf. Made me think we should organise a fair weather version of this ride!

Good call mister. Perhaps early September would be a good call?

"Pray tell, young man, how looks your diary for such an inspiring adventure?"

    How about 11/12 October 2014 for a re-run?

We will get the Autumn colours, and perhaps less of a frosty nip in the air?

If no objections, I will get a new thread started.

  • .

  • Yay a birthday ride...(for me)....in.

    Well that's decided the matter.

At least we will have an excuse to enjoy a few pints at the Turf in the evening, as if an excuse was ever required.

    New thread to follow shortly.

  • Nice work Bernie. Already looking forward to it.

  • spare socks already to hand
