As I haven't led that many rides muchos special thanks to Dicki, Skully and AlexB (I see you lurking) for helping at the back and shouting up on pace and spacing. Sometimes hard to tell without straining back to look all the time, and the darkness makes that move even more hairy. So cheers.

I agree, the pub was not bad - perfect meetup point. I totally forgot about my photos, will get my photos uploaded this evening.

Can't believe I didn't see this before, I live in Marlborough! Could have got a train and cycled back ahah. Oh well next year!

Yeah do it. The bits from around Newbury onwards, through Matlborough at first light and onwards were astonishingly nice! A bit lumpy for my tastes but lovely country.
I recorded some owls at one point.

It's wind, pothole, and hill country round 'ere mate. As I am sure you found out. Totally worth it though, love cycling in Wiltshire.

Yeah, actually the commonly atrocious roads were balanced out with a few stretches of absolutely glorious smooth surfaces here and there. Here in London they're almost all atrocious.
And we were blessed with very little breeze.

Likewise, I just wanted to add my thanks to all. It was a great ride.
Also apologies for grabbing everything in sight in the supermarket, getting on the train, not offering to share any of it and promptly falling asleep! Not very sociable behaviour! I was just shattered...
Got home, had an hour's sleep and then went out for the entire day with the kids. At one point I realised that I'd had three hours' sleep over the previous 40 hours. -

OK People who's up for Rolling to The Stones this winter solstice ... or at least near it, I was thinking Saturday night 20th Dec to Sunday morning 21st. (the precise Solstice is actually at 23:00 on the Sunday).
I really fancy a wintery 100k, why not do it in the pitch black?!
Only thing is, I have no Garmin so I'd be likely to get a bit lost.
Summer ride was so much fun, who's up for a winter adventure?

This sounds wonderful alas too busy a time for me this year.

Booked the trains?

Noted. Will have to do some thinkin' now that I have the wee baby but this is so worth doing in 2015, especially as it lands on another weekend.
If it goes ahead I might think of a different Exiting London route, too. Holland Park was fucking mental with traffic last time.

When is it this year? I haven't done it for a few years, would be up for it again. Time for 2015 thread?

Sounds interesting. Might clash with Dunwich Dynamo though?
-
• #147
the solstice will be, as it always has been, since the dawn of time, the 20th / 21st june
the dunwich is july i believe

The ride would leave London Saturday night 20 June to arrive in Avebury 21 June at like 5am. DD is in July, no?
Anyway maybe I'll start the thread but I can't commit to leading it yet.

I defer to your knowledge, I just had some idea solstice was longest day and that the DD was done on the weekend closest to the longest day.
the " ascot effect* " was in full effect in that whole area
*day out in the sun, sunday best fancy clothes, lots of alcohol = lots of odd behaviour
