The Manor House to Turnpike Lane stretch (Green Lanes) has changed quite a bit in the past 5 years.
It's become a nicer place, better restaurants, bars, coffee shops, etc but but it doesn't have the same atmosphere as years gone by.
Personally I like green lanes, plenty of stuff going on but if you get off the main road then fairly peaceful residential areas. I'm not too familiar with East of Green lanes though.
