Well, I'll support England and Germany equally until they meet. And I hate those games when they do.

But nothing in the last 24 years, apart from that one 5-1 game has shown that England are likely to do better than Germany.

I really hope to see England win the world cup, if nothing else because I've seen Germany do it.

My day of reckoning cane when England played Spain in the quarters at Euro '96... Watched it with my dad, honestly didn't know which way I'd go... Started cheering for Ingerlund... As an adult I was never bothered with England because they played so poorly. Even Italian 90 was pretty shambolic. You support your club through thick and thin but it's easy to be less involved at international level particularly when none of your club players represent. But as soon as I started teaching non English adults I started to become more and more xenophobic on match days purely because they don't stop prodding you with insults. Now I'd just like to see the players play without fear and if we win some games so we can all take the piss out of the opposition then that's a good bonus. Come on England!
