Soo... how big a tire can one fit into a PreCursa?
-
• #2036
That question comes up nearly as often as the one about converting trispoke rears to front wheels!
It depends how far back in the the ends you have the wheel but 32-35c.
-
• #2037
easy 32. havent needed to go bigger

Wheelbase 95,3cm - after some tweaks [54].

So, I'm thinking about buying one of these, with the winter road fork and build it up as a do-it-all fixed gear.
It'll have a front brake, compact drops, wider rims, 28c tyres and would be used for short commuting and riding around town.
Only question left is the size... I ride a 54cm Surly Cross Check and it's too long for me. so maybe a 52cm PC? -
• #2040
^52 could be the one..

But the Dolan has a steeper seat tube so that may shorten the reach a bit?
-
• #2042
^good old Dolan bike fit discussion.
My take is that a steeper seat tube will move the cockpit further away from BB (with the same length of toptube), therefore adding to the reach a bit, instead of shortening.

ftfy.

54cm Dolan will fit you, the Cross Check have a massive reach for the size, and Dolan tend to be a little off with their sizing, I found my old 54cm to be a little on the long side, and previously rode a 52cm Cross Check (54cm top tube).

Not quite sure I get you here...
My Crosschek is 54cm, and has a 56,5 TT and massive reach (394,8mm)
A 52cm PreCursa has a 535mm TT and a 75° Seattube, so it looks quite long anyway. I'd go for a 52cm... PC over a 54cm
has anyone measured Stack&Reach for the PreCursas? -
• #2046
Easiest way to measure it is 1 degree = 1cm longer.
So 75 degrees = 2cm longer.
54cm Dolan with 54.5cm TT is realistically 56.5cm, thus almost identical to your Cross Check, if that fit you fine in the first place.

That Cross Check is too long though, so I'll take the 52cm.
Thanks!Now... which color?
Any color except black acceptable? -
• #2048
Reckon 52cm will be fine, the stack should be a little less than 20mm compare to your Cross Check.
-
• #2049
Do you mean 20mm less stack than my Crosscheck? that would be okay, I guess, can be fixed with a little spacerstack. I have found low and short to be more comfortable than high and long.
Edit: Also I am looking at cranksets.
Planet-X have the Stronglight, do the Pre-Cursas still have the chainstay clearance issues with 144mm b.c.d. cranks? -

Sorry for the double post...
Wen't ahead and hacked the geo data into a stack&reach calculator.
Assuming the PCs have a 55mm BB drop (read that somewhere in here) the sizes translate to:
Size: S R
52cm 514 397
54cm 533.7 401.9the 52cm PC is even longer than my 54cm Surly CC while having nearly 25mm less stack. Crazy... And I thought Surlys were long and low...
Rode my new Precursa frameset down the Olympic track last night, uummm very responsive compared the hire bikes they have, perhaps my loose rear wheel bearing didn't help much
