  • Probably best to get the brevet card stamped first before attempting it.

  • I have developing some flu-like symptoms and I'm going to DNS the ditchling devil :/

    Incredible weather for it too...

  • That was really a really good ride.

  • So gutted to have missed the Devil especially with such gorgeous weather. Someone please post some pics. As the route is a perm I'm sure I'll do it at some point this season.

  • It was warmer than I was expecting it to be. Made Ditchling harder for me, walked the last 1/3 off the climb. But I was pretty much dead before then. Convienently there was an Ice Cream van waiting for me at the top.

  • Managed to make RP 7 minutes before cut off time much to the dismay of kati, today she felt really good about actually completing a 200k audax within time limit.

Sorry to hear you didn't make it fasih, was hoping to see you make an appearance before Chiddingfold.

  • Rutland Weekend 300Km Audax from Baldock, 21 June 07:00

I am running this event again this year. 33 out of 33 respondents to my post ride survey last year said they would recommend the ride to others, so it's exactly the same route

The ride runs from Baldock Station to Rutland and beyond to Bottesford in the Vale of Belvoir and back. It's timed to start on the arrival of early trains from London and Cambridge and there are late trains back to both places.

Commercial controls finishing up with a pub with ale and garden. Mainly flatish and fast but with several switchbacks on the way back giving it a bit of challenge. Well surfaced quiet roads and the likelihood that most riders will finish before it's completely dark.

What's not to like and space available

  • Noooooooooooo - really wanted to do this again, but had it in my head it was later in the year, and am away that weekend. Really recommend this as a first 300km. Shoot.

  • Would love to do it, but working in a bike shop mean 90% of audax are out of the question.

Manager never gave me holiday last years, time for a dirty protest methinks...

  • Dirty protest?

    Shit in his locker?

Used to go to school in baldock.

The 200k looks interesting to me, though it'll end up being closer to 300 by the time I ride out and back:

"200km cycling event starting from Maidenhead. Controls at Shere, Dabbling Duck, Petworth, Hungry Guest and Alton, Cafes Shops Pub, plus 5 information controls.
A new ride for 2014, in memory of Willesden CC's Jack Eason, randonneur of the millenium. It takes in the North Downs, Leith Hill, Blackdown, Hindhead, the Hampshire Downs.
Why 'Struggle' - it's because when people asked Jack how he was getting on in a ride he'd often say 'Strugglin''. While the main climbs are some of the longest in the South East and give a challenge, the rest of the route is reasonably flat and rides through some lovely countryside."

  • I am looking at the 100km ride. Something simple the weekend before the Dynamo.

  • My next audax will be the straight outa Hackney event in August .

  • That 100 looks right up my alley but I'm away for the Tour de Yorkshire

  • I did the Good Companions 200k at the weekend. 2600m of climbing which was pretty tough on the fixed. Worst part of it though was the finish down Cragg Vale, 15 minutes of spinning decent on knackered legs was slightly soul destroying.

Looking forward to getting a geared bike again.

  • Annual plug for the Suburban Breakout, 100k audax from London N2 on July 20th. New route this year, all you need to know at www.centrallondonctc.org.uk/audax

  • FIVE POUNDS?!?!?!!

    Count me in though :)

Organiser here. There's also a 100K event, 10 Thames Bridges at 0900 same place and date, that I reckon is doable on fixed, even by me, with a couple of short walks on Chiltern Lanes, and a pretty flat 60K ride too. See http://www.willesdencyclingclub.co.u...k_eason_rides/

  • Did the Rutland Weekend 300 on Saturday. Bit hilly in places, beautiful ride. Mostly nice quite roads.
    Recommended, would do again.

  • London Midweek sightseer tomorrow. If you have tomorrow off that is. Route sheet is 9 pages long. Midway control at the olympic velodrome. Going to ride to the start as I don't want to get scuppered by trains again.

Did this last year. Remember that it was a very hot day. Great day out. Apart from getting lost and getting stopped by police. All part of the fun though. Will more than likely do it again this year.

  • Good luck on the Sightseer! Sounds like a different route to last year. I remember getting very frustrated at the slooooooooooooow going through central London. Quite why I was surprised I'm not sure.

Took me about 8h to do 100k.

    Clockwise or anti-clockwise?

I work on Upper Ground so if I know the rough timings I can come outside and shout HTFU at various people...

  • It's anti-clockwise. Should be going along Upper Ground between 2.00 and 4.00 according to the route sheet fastest and slowest times. Just been doing a DIY gps by mouse clicking using the route sheet. Almost as long as the ride itself.

Apart from the velodrome and the cable car ride the rest is much the same.

  • No it's not. It's clockwise. Blimey. Better get to bed.
