They are not really amplifiers, although the plasma generated from the foam in the radiation channel does probably provide a counter-pressure to the ablated material from the tamper, which slows the rate at which the radiation channel becomes swamped with heavy (radiation absorbing) nuclei.

Mmmm, if you're into conspiracy theories is it possible that no helmet manufacturer lobbies for helmet compulsion cos they know full well they may become accountable for the effectiveness of their products

That has always been my argument against helmet compulsion by sporting bodies. If you tell people they have to wear a hat, you then have to tell them what kind of hat, and then you are effectively stating that wearing that specific kind of hat will make them safe.

i did once have a conversation with one of them behind the till who was sporting an impressive amount of bandaging on his head once and said he was quite lucky to be alive from a spill so i might get where the helmet thing comes from if they're talking personally but compulsion is still bullshit.

Good to see plenty of space around them because non helmeted riders are obviously unsafe. The chaps behind don't need as much space to ride in because helmets make you safe.
