• Interesting, that's definitely an older rim - all of the ones I've had over the past couple of years have had (when asked for) the basalt brake track.

    Brand new, delivered last week

  • Loook decent! Would prefer silver spokes silver hubs which I dont think they do but not that fussed really. Whats shipping and do they mark down for customs?

  • Haven't really investigated. I'm sure I can order a wheelset plus a rear wheel saving you postage costs. I'll check the other details out.

  • You after just the rim?

  • If the savings are better on ordering two wheelsets then might aswell do that? if the discount isn't worth it then Ill just cop a rim, is that all good?

  • Yep, i'll just try and figure out postage and customs and i'll give yo a shout before I order. Do you want it desperately or can you wait for another month?

  • Im easy, holla me when you know prices and I will hope to have enough moneys again by then

  • The lacing is funny too. I'll see if that can be changed.

Radial for rear non-drive side, 2X drive side.

  • Hugo, our complete order comes to $1,039 when I include the shipping. I'm pretty sure there are import duties on top of that (can some one clarify this please).

That's a wheelset for me and a rear wheel for you. Total is under £620. If I pay 2/3 and you pay 1/3 then that's £205 for your rear wheel.

Is it expensive? Have you found somewhere cheaper? They want $230 for shipping and handling...

  • Husy were you able to change the lacing? (just my curiosity).

  • Yes, they've corrected the website. It's 24 (2x) rear 20 (radial) front.

  • The thing is Varno (V-Sprint) can probably sell us 85mm for £250 (each), next day delivery. Planet X have 82mm wheelset's for £299!! But I don' know how easy it is to remove the logo and both of these are tubs not clincher rims.

  • Be very careful with with carbon clinchers, especially cheaper one. The outward tyre pressure is huge and the weave will need to be top notch, couple that with brake blocks!! Trust me ive researched it. Our road carbon clinchers have an alloy insert and the carbon track wheels are obviously tub. PS the logos on ours are laminated in to ensure the most aero advantage..

  • Cheers Varno, got the PM :)

  • Im really after a clincher, im not really about that tubular life just yet.

This is the cheapest I can find online, seeing as they all look the same how do you define a better woven clincher rim? weight or weave pattern?

this one looks better quality maybe? or it it just the website design that is gettin me

2 rims for about 250 including shipping. They will probably mark it down and send 3 for the same postage or even reduced price.
Ive got a few emails too. gonna pm you now

  • A what's the story with the LOOK 695s on Alibaba. Copies or seconds? Naive of me I know but it seems like a lot of work to make the specific cranks etc too? I can't find a discussion anywhere online about them.

  • I haven't seen any evidence that they have actually copied the crank. The real frames are made in Look's own factory in Tunisia, so there's no realistic possibility that QA failures would slip out of the back.

  • Thanks. I have heard before LOOK manufacture closer to home, it just confuses me that some of the sellers offer the LOOK stem and crankset, or at reference it while not having the plans. But the whole thing is a bit of a mystery to me tbh.

  • I'm considering getting basic Chinese carbon road frameset to built up with some parts that I have lying around. What are people's experiences with the most basic ones (non-ISP, BSA bb)? I was looking at Carbonzone on eBay and this looks like a reasonable for ~£250 delivered:

Those were really popular when I was in Philippines last year, got a couple of my cousins who ordered from china for carbon frames. Felt pretty ok, it's just this nagging feeling at the back of my head saying "fuck im going to die, aren't i?" since it's cheap carbon from china. Maybe it's just me being paranoid, but buying a carbon frame, made in china, and for a very cheap price, doesnt inspire me with confidence

Would you feel any better if it had been repainted in America and given a price four times higher? :-)
