FFF - Where did you buy the cages? You inspire me to replace the cage on my roller too. Great DIY solution for the second cage. I always mess around with tape and inner tubes as a temporary solution for my second cage but it might be time for a more permanent solution.
This is a recent pic of my roller. The last months I have used it with drops and rack, risers and rack breakless, and drops with hoods. I think i settled for this setup for now, suits my daily commute as well as the 80-100k weekend ride. The money I spent on my roller is probably my best investment ever! Planning a 10 day tour with my roller in august through Denmark and Germany.

Snap on the Wutang sticker :)
Basically you need a cage you can attach Jubilee clips to where the bolt holes touch the frame, on the front anyway.

^nice sticker. glad it's not a wukip one either.
seeing that i'm tempted to get loads of small wu bird logos made and cover my black frame in them. so it looks like yellow dots from afar but when you get close you realise it ain't nuthin' ta fuck wit.

And I asked for advice from the Great Brovet-Samuli of Helsinki.
If it works on a 400km ride to the Russian border and back it surly is good enough for me. Nowadays there's a third cage under the down tube..
the cages were bought off ebay US as a bargainous deal. sadly the last and probably the only pair at that price but more minoura cages can be found..
btw, is that a captajn tool roll under the seat..? A nice roller indeed.

Mine's been going strong for over 6 years now :) think it might be due another respray.. metallic pine green perhaps. Washed it on friday, rode 40 miles on it yesterday and here's how it looks this morning:

^ 6 years is incredible! Quality build too, so definitely will last for many more years!
^^FFF: Yes, It's a Kaptajn roll containing the essentials for my commute. Love the bike you posted up there, so much character!

I'm having so much fun with my Surly, It handled some pretty rough trails like a champ

Excellent. Nice to see it being thrashed.

Anyone have a suggestion for a disc fork to put on a steamroller? Aiming to keep the geo the same, and not blow too much cash...
-
• #1716
You could get a cx fork, and use a canti brake instead of a disc brake
-
• #1717
cx forks usually have longer a-c and more rake which combined make steering boring and slow. tried, tested and not recommended.
shortish a-c and relatively small rake make choosing the fork really difficult as no such option is available at the market, except for maybe if someone re-sells a custom made. those won't be cheap either..
if you really wan't a disc fork i'd go for the cheapest on the market and live with the results. or source a used one on here..

• #1718
Charge whisk Is the closest I found.
-
• #1719
@FFF yea the a-c is what I'm worried about, good to know you've tried and CX forks not the way to go. I've been in touch with a framebuilder here (I've moved to NZ) who might be able to build one with the right dims, without breaking the bank.
I could take the opportunity to have some braze-ons added to the frame too, to give it the rack and fender mounts it should always have had (imho). Anyway, he's quoting, so I'll see how it comes back...

Just get audax fork on it, 375mm is basically similar to a carbon fork that have clearance.
E.g. Kinesis DC07 carbon fork is 374mm, the larger rake (43mm vs. 38mm) mean it'll be noticeably twitcher, closer to a road bike than track.
-
• #1721
Aye, hadn't considered that ed. Any suggestions with disc tabs?
-
• #1722
A Disk Trucker fork would probably fit, wouldn't it? Looks a bit more rakey than the Steamroller fork, but the 26" has the same a-c.
-
• #1723
The 26" fits, clearance is pretty tight with a 35c tyre.

Good shout lazy, nice.

Finally resolved the issue with having two black Surly's.
Where did you have it done, Fasih? Looks really good.
So tested and I actually think that they're fantastic. The matte surface offers some grip(although this will probably face away..) to the bottle which I welcome so that they stay in place even on rougher terrain.. The camelbak podiums sit in tightly so even as they won't stay grippy forever I think they'll do their job just fine.
I might steal gf's nail polish and finish them up though..
All in all as they we're £10 posted for the pair I'd say a very good deal indeed.
