There are usually some coach tickets available at the end as people don't take them up. You could speculate on that option. Apart from that, you could plan a nice week-end in Suffolk and return at your leisure on Sunday evening or on Monday. As the others said, you could ride to Ipswich, or to another station. The closest station, Darsham, is not a good bet, as too many people try to get on the train there.

If i was going North, i would head for lowestoft and get the train to Norwich from there. Bit of a pain, but decent enough connections to the north via Peterborough, even direct to liverpool.
