I have an idea for a new way of organising the World Cup and Olympics. Instead of the host nation funding the entire project wouldn't it be better if FIFA or the Olympic committee did? Each participating country could contribute a percentage of GDP to a kitty. Nations could still be invited to bid to be hosts. Under this system a smaller or poorer nation could win if the preparations needed fell in line with amount of money raised. Facilities could be built some for legacy and others of a temporary nature. A gift from the world to that nation. Far more in line with the ideals of the Olympics for example. Fundamentally, Brazil wouldn't be wasting money on stadiums when it should be building more essential facilities for its people.
