Adopt an Orang-utan. Closest thing to actually adopting a member of the forum. You can actually visit them in their habitat (usually at one of the weekly drinks - other than Easts), and your donation will go towards protecting their natural home as well as providing a sanctuary for any injuries that may occur over their lifetime. With some charities you also have the option to visit them and see where your money has gone.

We've adopted a kitten. He was found running around the car park of one of the malls.
He's slowly taking our stuff to bits and is apparently a foot fetishist and wannabe x-factor contestant.
He's ferral. And I don't mean that bloke with the hat.

Find a charity that uses cute and cuddly flagship animal to 'adopt' but actually spends the money on a range of environmental issues across a broader range of species. You get the aaah factor and your money goes where it's needed.
Honestly, (paraphrasing a comedian, #notserious), how many snow leopards do we need? Maybe ten for zoos and another max ten for films, that's about twenty tops......
There are many REALLY important threatened species (as in to the survival of your grandchildren important) that just don't have the camera appeal. Adopt a bumblebee or a frog anyone?
I want to do one of those "adopt a xxxx" things for a christmas present for my girlfriend.
I'm thinking either snow leopard or donkey.
Anyone got any recommendations of who to do it through? WWF would be the obvious but perhaps there's smaller charities who actually do better work?
