if it makes you feel any better, that may not have made a difference: i had my front wheel nicked right outside alibi, like 10 foot from the doorman.
Exactly there (I had locked up to the traffic light pole) I caught a thief red handed dressed up in hi-viz nicking my seatpost and saddle. I confiscated his multi tool and sent him on his way.

Thanks dimi. Yeah they've got Ben's grey Raleigh Titanium as well.
Mine now has celeste tyres and matching grips still with Campag cranks short Cinelli stem with condor risers. The lug work says Fondriest and it's light slx tubing the frame number is 56 so easy to spot. It's my pride and joy so please keep your eyes peeled folks xOh FFS

Here's another one. A Sun racer, now with moustache bars, Mavic alloy rims, and a lovely brown leather Brooks saddle, stolen yesterday from outside Westfield in Stratford.
It was locked up and only left there for an hour or so.
The bike is not a showroom example, and has a bit of rust here and there, but it was a much loved gettabout with sentimental value.
Picture attached, it's not the Raleigh Banana, the other one. It has 'Strada' painted onto the frame cross tube and down tube. I think by an enthusiastic previous owner - Sun of Worksop never made a 'Strada' as far as I know.
We checked out all the low life at Brick Lane, told Jan at BLB, and Isambard's in case anyone tries to sell it there (you never know), and am checking bikeshd regularly. But if anyone sees one or hears anything - I'd be grateful.

Brooks B17 Standard in Honey with chrome rails and chrome clamp stolen last night/this morning.
The thief cut the saddle lock and stole it. Didn't bother stealing the complete bike...
Bike racks outside 5 Boundary Street in Shoreditch E2.
Guaranteed that it will be on display at Brick Lane Market on Sunday morning so will go there to check but thought I would cross post here.
Reported to the police already.

I now have a crime report and received advice from the police regarding my stolen Brooks saddle. I toild the officer that I will go to Brick Lane on Sunday morning to look for it.
Here is the reply:
I am really sorry for your loss it is a huge problem in London right now.
I was about to say exactly what you have already said go to Brick lane and look on the stalls to the rear of the market.
If you do spot it please call the police straight away and do not try and recover it yourself as there are a number of gangs operating in the market.
We are working on Sunday but are deployed on the London to Brighton ride.
It's also worth keeping an eye on Gumtree as well
Sorry I cannot really advise anything further at this timeI love the way they know the exact location of the stolen saddles and thieving gangs but yet, if you don't have tangible proof (ie a serial number or your name engraved on it) that a saddle is yours, the seller can have as many Brooks saddles as he wants without fearing an arrest.
The case is, unfortunately, closed.

It's a difficult one, but what can they do if they can't prove a saddle is stolen? They can be fairly certain that the products are nicked, but that doesn't get someone charged with theft/handling stolen goods.
Do Brooks have unique serial numbers on their saddles?

They only have a manufacturing stamp used to date them. I guess there would be big batches of similar saddles with the same number...

Skully of this very forum could probably furnish a Brooks with a serial number for you (not guaranteed to be unique)
-
• #11743
Hmm, maybe it's worth lobbying Brooks to introduce serial numbering to their highly prized, easily stolen saddles.
It'd certainly make it a lot easier for the cops to stop the open selling of items that are presumed stolen if they could just turn up with a list of serial numbers of saddles that have been nicked.

Fuckers broke into my home.
In these cases, are bikes the only target or they take anything valuable? Pretty useful to understand if they have been targeting specific owners/bikes.

i reckon we should do a page just for the picture of stolen bikes, with details of each bike, without all the comments, much easier to spot something and relate, instead of having scroll through the posts in between just to get to the pictures.

Getaway vehicle I reckon, if working alone anyway. Mine certainly wasn't the only thing the cunt took or was looking for.

I though exactly the same, a simple page with a list of stolen bike with des, SN, CRN,....not a big deal to hold that info in a small database, you would be able to search through it via tag and anyone could add/remove their stolen bike.
You can even do a component section, i need to get time for it but would not take long to dev that.
