  • Hi guys, a post to announce this years edition of the London Ditchling Devil 200km Audax on Sunday June 8th, a romp from Wimbledon Common down to the coast and back, elevenses, lunch and tea included. A few lumps along the way but generally fixer friendly, ~70" will see you round fine. Full details can be found at www.paudax.com/ditchlingdevil. Tell your friends and help make it a great day!

A couple of great posts from last years event, courtesy of our staff photographers, Vesalius and Edscoble.

  • thanks for the post. looks like a nice loop down south - a much better route than the usual Brighton roads

  • I'll be there, it's a cracking ride. This time hopefully bringing some fitness and 10kg less self (and 67" fixed).

Only three steep bits: Ditchling Beacon (done before on 67", never without a "few" breathers on the way up though), Tongdean Lane (hurt me last year even with 34x26 bottom gear) and Combe Lane. From there it's mostly downhill back to RP.

  • Looks really good. I will definitely try to make it. I still don't know if I will be in London tought

  • This looks awesome! exactly the kind of ride i would like to do when i get to london, will be a wicked opportunity to see the countryside!

  • I'm in for this. Preparing to walk Tongdean Lane.

  • Tempted by this - I'd meant to do it a couple of years ago, and I am frequently reminded of it, as the laptop I use for astro-imaging is one that I bought from manotea years ago.

But this year it is the day after a FNRttC that a friend of mine wants to ride, and I don't think it would make sense to do both. I will see how things turn out.

  • In for the third time.

  • Just signed up! Mentioned on the main audax thread, had forgotten it had its own thread here. Doing it geared though.

  • What's the cut off time for the LDD? kati like to know what the limit is as she's worry about missing it.

  • 13 1/2 hours, ish. If it's BRM, fixed length of 13hr 30mins; if it's BR, then whatever 15km/h works out as, but I don't think the DD is significantly overlength. About 21:30, in other words.

  • Hi guys, I've just closed the entry list on the Ditchling Devil for 2014 as we are full to bursting. If you've not entered, and even if you have, keep a close eye out for some other great events that are coming up in the London area in the next few months, including

    Jul 6 - The Jack Easen routes (60, 100, 200km)
    Jul 20 - Suburban Breakout 100km
    Aug 2 - Straight Outta Hackney 200km
Aug 17 - Tour of the Hills, 120km
    Sept 7 - London Sightseer

    and of course...

    Oct 4 - The AAAnfractuous 200km!

    All the best, Paul

You do realise London is a city, don't you? ;)

  • A week in Madrid eating tapas and drinking large quantities of lager has, unsurprisingly, not done much for my preparation for this.

Still in though, 67" fixed will do. I may be cursing it at Coombe Lane but then I'll be almost home by then.

P.S. Say hello when collecting your Brevet Cards from me (I'll try and remember the LFGSS cap).

  • Next time says hello Greenbank!

Will ask kati to bring her LFGSS cap, and it's her first audax too (I'll be following her as she got the GPS).

  • I don't seem to have a GPS link. Anyone got one?

  • PM'ed.

But actually I can post it here too!

  • The only thing daunting me at the moment is the prospect of 200km on tubs.

  • Got a team car? My bag isn't big enough for two spare wheels in afraid.

  • Sadly not. Spare tub in jersey pocket. #lookingpro #probablystupid

  • Wrap it round on your chest.

  • .

  • Giddy with excitement.

  • You lucky devils..
