• maestro mike fights against cartels and price fixing, seems like a nice fella as well
    "Price Cartels Are Illegal

The current fashion is to defend high prices, by authorising dealers, i.e. a price cartel, designed to remove the competitive element of sales, PRICE CARTELS ARE ILLEGAL, in virtually every country, in Europe, a company director involved in price cartels, can be liable on conviction, in the UK to a prison sentence of up to five years.

The only thing you are guaranteed from an authorised dealer, IS A HIGHER PRICE, you are not guaranteed knowledge of the product, superior service, or even a correctly transacted warranty."

  • I don't get the level of malice people on here seem to have for Mr Foffa. It's very personal. Is it really just that he runs a company that puts out products that are considered inferior? Or has he been a presence here in the past and given people a bad impression of himself as a person? If it's the former then there are surely a fair few companies which have so far evaded such harsh criticism. I assume there is a feeling that he is cashing in on the fad for fixies? Genuinely interested to know, I feel like I may have missed something.

  • He stuck his head in the sand when his company was producing products that weren't suitable for their purpose.

He subsequently admitted defeat, changed manufacturers and produced a higher quality item - only the uninitiated kept buying his product. His reputation had been tarnished somewhat by his previous endeavours which appeared to put off the seasoned acquirer of bikes.

Everyone deserves two chances and this last hiccup is just that - a hiccup. I hope his business flourishes and becomes a truly great success.

    passes out

Too late, the original is out there, and the web article still carries the retraction, which is about as damaging as the original quote. They have a substantial print run which, given the way print publication works, must have been completed by the publication date. I wonder if they managed to pulp it before it was posted?

Passing off shitty rebuilds as 'vintage', then passing off shitty Chinese tanks as 'bespoke' because they came in multiple colours pissed off people who can make a bike out of spare bits with their eyes shut and think bespoke means tubes cut and brazed to measure. Because it was paradigmatic of the money grubbing cunts who came in and milked the fixed gear scene for cash. Basically. Imagine someone selling you smelly raw fish carcass and claiming it was sushi.

  • FFS is this why I'm being abused on Ian the Shit Mechanics FB page?

Can I have a synopsis please?

  • Can I have a synopsis please?

Dani broke free from his restraints and spoke to the trade rag BikeBiz.

Fortunately for him, they don't employ journalists, so they removed his most egregious comments from their site.

Unfortunately, they don't employ journalists, so they initially uncritically published his most egregious comments, and a shit-storm ensued.

  • There seem to be some legal threats bandied around on the wiki page so I guess some people on here might expect to receive some equally lame PMs.

I'm no lawyer but stating clear opinion on here & facts on wiki is fine isn't it? (not that I've done either, I just wouldn't buy a Foffa).

  • Watching the wikipedia mechanisms go to work has been pretty illuminating on why stuff works as well as it does over there. I may hate wiki syntax, but the pre and post wikipedia worlds are pretty different.

At any rate the interesting links (right now) are:

It is all interesting including the parts that NebY wrote. Its like an example of how I wish things worked IRL. No 'justice' system or 'penal' system (no fnar) but a system to help people with their antisocial behavior.

  • What is the minimum threshold for declaring someone an entrepreneur?

  • Despite the danger associated with answering a rhetorical question and ruining the joke, I will have a go: "You must have started at least one business".

    Loving this.

Surely not in practical terms? If so, then are Ice Cream men entrepreneurs?

When I registered as self employed (I was doing sub £200 per annum worth of photography work) I had to 'give my business a name', am I an entrepreneur?

  • Ice cream man (if it is his own company selling ice creams) yes, definitely.

self employed dude not starting a business I would say "no, probably not" although I think if you were making a business out of it you would be, right?

You don't have to be big or even successful to be considered an entrepreneur. You just have take a risk and start a business. Say what you will about Dani (just don't do it on wikipedia or else his lawyers will pretend to be after you), there is no doubt that he is an entrepreneur.

    Ice creams for everyone!

  • On the COI section of the talk article Danni outs himself as 86.3.184.24 presumably by mistake. In the best interests of his business he really should self censor more.
