Quite some time ago, I worked on a ridiculously cool Kuwahara Pacer, in a colour scheme similar to this:
Since then, I've fairly regularly browsed the interwebs for something similar, until I got another bike to fulfil light touring duties and the like, so stopped looking. For no apparent reason, about a month ago, I went looking again, and instead stumbled across the frame/fork (only) you see at the top^^. Having just offloaded some bike stuff, I was cashed up and totally ready to inject some mediocre, mid-90's mountainbiking tech (with a rad paintjob!) into my life.
It came to me, still in the factory-original Kuwahara tape, from '92, and for what I think was a fairly reasonable sum.
Unlike my other Chas Roberts build for the missus, which is dragging along at <1rat-pace, this SHOULD be done following exams, in about a month or so, when all the parts wind their way from various parts of the globe to me.
Build plan:
Original Rocklobster Quill Stem
--> I'm a big Paul Sadoff fan, this came up and I had to have it, like this one:
Raceface Turbine(?) Cranks (partsbox)
Magura Pro Front Hub laced to a Sun RhynoLite Rim
Paul Motolite Front brake, NOS Shimano U-brake for the rear
XTR M960(?) 9-speed RD (from the parts box)
Paul thumbies with corresponding shim 9-speed downtube shifter mounted
Random saddle/bars/brake levers/9-speed chain
Random long seatpost, probably one of the Gusset ones from Wiggle or the like.
And my favourite bit:
Chris King SS Hub (Silver) with 6-speed Waltworks-modified XT cassette, also laced to a Sun RhynoLite
This will live as a 1x6 for the sake of it; I've always liked the 6-speed-on-SS-hub idea, and I got the CK hub real cheap. But I also like the versatility of being able to par this down to a singlespeed set-up, or even fixed(?) with a bolt on cog on the CK hub.
So, a month or so ago, I bought this (frame/fork/H-set):
