  • He's probably just gone on holiday and been slack with your items... Maybe you could find him on Facebook and give him a nudge that way?

I brought some wheels from codswallop/mr harris, no problems at all

  • When was this?

  • If paying by PayPal gift, you are as well sticking money in an envelope for al the protection you get. Regular PayPal outside of eBay gives you good, but not bulletproof protection: they can still be arsey about paying out, but its usually just a matter of them making you wait longer for a refund.

Did you get any kind of contact details from him?

  • I feel for you guys and hope it turns out well and you get the stuff.

  • When was this?
    about four weeks ago

  • Did you get any kind of contact details from him?
only bank details, nothing else, hope you get to resolve this

  • anyone know this codswallop dude ? looks like hes off to the maldives with my money

  • Ditto.

  • Damn. It seems some people have bought from him but have had delays. Let's hope he's just a bad trader and not a fraud.

If the latter then it amazes me the length people will go for a bit of other peoples money.

Husy! You want to hear of a true horrible scam which happened back in 1990? You do! OK here goes!

I used to work in a coal mine in Nottinghamshire and we started to get 'private contractors' working in the pit and one particular bloke who 'lived' in Sheffield used to catch everyone's eye with his car dealings, he said he can get brand new cars for less than a quarter of the price of a new one! No one didn't believe him until he arrived in a brand new Range Rover Vogue for a friend of mine, the cost of this vehicle was just £5,000 and it was legit and even came with plates fitted, we all looked at this lovely Vogue and it was amazing.

The next day several blokes approached this 'dealer' and asked him if he could get two brand new Ford Escort Ghia's, a week later he had got these Escort's and paid only £2000 each!!! Well that got everyone wanting a new car and the dealer set up bench down the pit and very high amounts of money passed into the dealers hands and he then had a waiting list for cars but to buy the car you had to give him cash up front, someone of the buyers even took loans out just to get their dream car.

There must have been at least 200 cars on order and everyone was happy knowing of the bargin of a life time, well a week later and the dealer had not come to work and a month on, no one had seen their new cars, everyone of the buyers started to get worried and theirs fears soon became reality as it became apparent they had been scammed.

Turns out this 'dealer' had purchased new cars at FULL RRP at his own cost and sold them to the first suckers who got their cars and was rightfully theirs, but then told other interested parties of what he can get which will take a week to get hold of, there was many types of cars on order from a basic two door fiesta to a Porsche 911.

This unknown dealer who had a fake name and address disappeared off the face of the UK and was never seen again, in total he stole around £150,000 of peoples money.

True story! and luckily I didn't give him my £2500 for my new car as he didn't come to work that day.

  • That's more than a bit of someone's money. For few tenners involved here I just can't imagine a person that desperate. Anyhow, let's hope it's a false alarm and the guy's just just being a prick at trading.

  • Hope you're right Husy.

  • Gutted if anyone's been scammed. Guessing no-shows can happens for all sorts of reasons. I purchased some brake calipers off a member here with a ton of rep, 5k+ posts and 30 friends. Never turned up and he's not been on here since late last year. Guessing something pretty heavy must have happened.

  • yes am imagining the same , its just "odd" that he only took bank transfers + then disappeared with what probably amounts to £250 of goods ?

  • Pending these guys getting their stuff, I'm interested in:

    • Stringing him up from a tall tree*

No sign, no contact, no money. If e had gone on holiday then telling me he'd post my seatpost the next day (Monday) was pretty ambitious.

Charlie Z Harris (reportedly of Suffolk but with a bank based in Colchester) you have a lot of explaining to do...

  • Is that who it is? He was previously on here as "Charlie Z" and I flagged him as dodgy to VB, who took the unusual step of posting a caveat on one of his ads.

Presumably that's why he returned under an alias.

Why some people insist on sending cash to strangers they meet on the internet is beyond me.

  • yup piss poor , looked like a ok trader in other threads ......

  • Yeah exactly that, under normal circumstances I wouldn't have done it but at the same time, there were clearly some successful transactions before.

Is there any way of getting back money which has been sent by bank transfer? I suspect not...

  • Yeah, I shouldn't be too smug: I make that decision from time to time. Even if the seller is sound it's still risky: the "knocked down by a bus" scenario doesn't respect honesty.

If I remember correctly, the last hoo-ha had a happy ending: check the Bad Traders thread, it was last year. The fact he returned under an alias doesn't look good though.

I don't think you can do much if the transfer itself was "technically" correct, ie not the wrong a/c number etc.

  • err its fraud isnt it ? i can't find any posts by a "charlie z" ?

  • CharlieZH13

Definitely the same guy: originally local to me, then moved to Colchester.

  • ``'It should be noted that the seller has appeared in the bad trader's thread:
    http://www.lfgss.com/thread46973-54.html#post3878368

That he's also got a negative eBay rating.

And that whilst things eventually work out, that he's screwed quite a few people around.

It is not actually recommended that anyone buy anything from him."

  • So he's clearly got history but has also traditionally messed people around and perhaps come through eventually.

He's also used the forum for things other than selling.

I can figure this out. I just want my saddle or my £25 back
