  • No problem, the wheel just needs re-dishing.

I guess you have more gears than the wheel originally had, which has shifted the hub to the left.

  • I had that wheel trued and serviced , shouldn't that have put it in the center already ?

  • Did you just give them the wheel, or was it fitted to the bike?

If it wasn't fitted, then they wouldn't have known where the rim needed to be centred, so would have just trued it.

If it was fitted to the bike, then "yes" a competent mechanic should have spotted that the wheel needed to be re-dished.

  • You're right, stupid me to think it should have been done already.

    it wasn't with the bike.

  • No problem, it's a straightforward job.

I forgot to say: fantastic job, it looks amazing!

Just a small criticism: the cable outers look a bit long. :)

  • yeah I think they are :)

next week I'll shorten them at the workshop.

    thanks for your kind words.

  • I'm working on one of these at the moment – nice job.

  • thanks, got a thread with plenty of pictures too?

Seriously would love to see what you're up to...is it a Mistral?

  • I'm afraid not – threads for other builds but not the Holdsworth. It's a mess at the moment (much surface rust – planning to take to Vaz for a spray) but will sort some pictures soon. Yes, it's a Mistral...

  • nice!

well do put it up as soon as you can then. Which color you'll go for?

  • Really not sure. My bro has an orange one. I sort-of fancy a retro-gold...

  • The orange is wonderful and at times I wish I had gone that route myself. But then your brother has it too :)
Not a fancy of gold myself though...which components will go on it?

  • Maybe a pale blue metallic. Component-wise, I have a Shimano Arabesque groupset, but I may build it fixed. Will take some pics tonight.

  • Cool great.

The Arabesque was my first choice, but then someone sold me some Golden Arrow components for cheap and I went down that route which I'm glad I did as I like the clean lines of the Golden Arrow. The Arabesque would have been too Arabesque-y :)

And I have too many blue bikes already. Wanted a darkish colour to give it more contrast with white-ish components, but failed as I went for black saddle and black handlebar tape. Oh well, it's lovely anyway :)

  • Wait, surely if a shop trued it, they would have used a truing stand? The aim is always to get the rim aligned midway between the locknuts, right?

    Confused.

  • Maybe, confused too

  • ...The aim is always to get the rim aligned midway between the locknuts, right?...
Yes, but the hub is offset to the left because of the freewheel.

  • Is also this the reason I sometimes hear a tack tack coming from there?

I changed freewheel on the miss Gazelle and it does the same.
It had a Maillard hub 5 speed with small cogs and went for a 6 with bigger cogs.

Mmm will have to bring both to a local shop to check for this.

If that's the cause of the tack tack I can't figure out what actually does it. On the Gazelle is quite loud. When she freewheels a bit and starts pedalling at times she gets a 'right' configuration and it doesn't emit a sound until she freewheels again and starts 'bad'.

    So weird to me :/

  • Yeah, I suppose locknuts is wrong. Why would you not true the wheel with it mounted in the stand with the freewheel screwed on? Then you can't not get it centred, right?

  • the wheel has the freewheel on, just not on the bike.

  • I was just pondering what the shop had done while truing it.

  • Btw bike back from LBS, but they said that because the rim is bit bent it's best to rebuild it with new rim.
They couldn't center it enough without rebuilding it.

  • What sort of rim are you after?

I've got some which might suit.

  • Alloy and light :)

The ones on now are Mavic

    What have you got?
