There's wine threads, whisky threads already. Nail down which he prefers and head there.

The standard rate for medical work for friends & family is a case of wine.
Pick a budget, buy a mixed case, have it delivered.

Or just treat him to a night of hookers & blow.

Berry Bros. & Rudd might be worth a look for this. I've been informed that their London shop is very good and approachable and I've been meaning to visit for ages.

Good shout - BBR are very good - they have traded from the same shop since 1698!!!
Go in - give them a budget and ask them what they would recommend - a half case of better wine might be better received than a dozen cheaper bottles imo.
edit
Actually isn't someone on the forum a wine dealer?? Can't remember who though....

I import my family Champagne in London.
All magnums and jeroboams come in wooden cases and look really smart - always a great gift.

£48 for a Brut Magnum (150cl)
£50 for a Rosé Magnum (150cl)
£125 for a Brut Jeroboam (300cl)They all come in Champagne Lasseaux & Fils branded wooden cases.
I also have gift bags for our 75cl bottles if you don't want to spend that much - our 2005 Vintage Champagne is only £23.50

I'll give you a tenner for 1L. That's my final offer.
Here's the situation...
I've absolutely hated dentists since as far back as I can remember and would do anything to get out of going to one. I recently went private to a nice place (which happened to be owned by the father of my best friend).
His dad really helped me out, offered a great service and I had some work done which should have cost me just shy of £1k which I was happy to pay full price for but he refused to take any money because me and his son have been friends for such a long time.
I'd really like to buy this man a bottle of wine, whiskey or something else. What is a 'fool proof' drink to buy and how much should I be spending? I don't mind spending that little extra as I don't want to give him a bottle of something cheap and nasty!
thanks
