If you crack the cheapish ones, i'd say get something decent

Just bought a Global G5 but when I got it home the blade has a really distinct curve to the left, I'm guessing this isn't an intentional design but wanted to check if anyone else has come across anything like this?

No, mine are all dead straight - but I have rather fallen out of love with them. Tend to gravitate to various Sabatiers for big stuff and (as echoed above) LIVE by my little Victorinox knives with the cheap moulded plastic handles but blades you can breathe on with a steel and shave with.
Rather love the little sandwich knives from the same range too - lightly serrated so you can spread butter and eviscerate a crusty French loaf or a croissant with the same knife.
I'd be taking the Global back TBH, sounds like a defect.

Wusthof is the way to go. Ive used them for years, in fact the same exact knife for years, this one to be exact. Great for vegetables and fish as it has a scalloped blade
CLASSIC IKON Santoku - 4172 / 14 cm (5")
It was around £70 and as long as you look after it and sharpen it regularly it will last you a lifetime

[QUOTE=SimonAH;4265677) LOVE by my little Victorinox knives with the cheap moulded plastic handles but blades you can breathe on with a steel and shave with..[/QUOTE]
Seriously, I adopted a set of these, when I moved in with my wife, they are bloody great, and as sharp as hell, from (my) day 1. they haven't needed sharpening,.
best for fruit, or cutting small meats, bread rolls etc..actually, anything that a 3-4 inch blade needs to cope with.
BTW. The red handled version.
Cleavers, my current one has cracked. Any point in getting a decent one or shall I just pick up another cheapish one from Chinatown?
