Some of their columns / blogs make 1930s Daily Express look liberal - the latest comments to the 'we're all racist' blog being a case in point with people proudly announcing their xenophobia and prejudice. Posted I assume from Costa Brava / Woking.

This is the only really true fact in this whole debate and need to be shared across all platforms

I have had two accidents on bikes. One i made a ramp when i was 8 years old and tried to ramp it on my Raleigh Strika, it didn't work out and i landed on my jaw. a helmet wouldn't have helped.

No.2 accident i hit a car, flew 10 feet in the air and landed on the tarmac on my hands and knees... as humans normally do. i wrecked my hands and knees but my head was fine.

Despite the 124 pages of discussion giving the opposite impression, it's actually a very insignificant decision, in that wearing/not wearing a helmet has such a tiny effect that it's really not worth worrying about.

Me = knocked off by car. Carted off to hospital to be diagnosed with a subdural haematoma. Doctors thought they'd have to drill a hole in my head (cooool!) but in the end, despite spending a week in a neurological ward, the only treatment I had was regular paracetamol. Helmet? You betcha. There may well be only 1% of accidents where a helmet helps you. But it's not 0%. Do the math.

Having said that, if I die from not wearing a helmet it's stupid, but if my kids die from not wearing a helmet it's not stupid if they're out and about larking on their bikes.

I would never subject my children to the increased risk of close passes, strangulation and rotational injuries that are attendant to helmet-wearers and I don't even have any children!!!
