I am reading a lot online about female players and bike polo. Its an interesting topic. Why so few girls? Why not on the podium (so much), or in top teams?
Despite our small percentage of the overall community, we still organise and run and ref as much or often more than our male counterparts. So we are here and we are keen and we care about bike polo and I know a lot of us are hungry to improve!
In light of all this I am starting a biweekly ladies drills night. Aimed at focusing on sweet passes, good plays and dealing with 6ft 5 dudes sitting on you...amongst other things. I want to see one of the uk ladies in a top ten team at the euros in the next year. Let's help each other out and get on court!
I'd propose starting this in two weeks. What are people's thoughts on days/courts/the general idea?
Alongside this we could run a ladies bench every 2 months somewhere in the uk to try and get some keen noobs down and spread the love/use what we've learned.
It goes without saying that I believe firmly in coed polo. This isn't about starting a women's league or anything like that, it is solely for the purpose of getting more players involved, getting everyone on a learning curve together and getting a woman on a mainstage tournament podium in the next two years.
Come on ladies!!! Let's kill it this year!
Nik
P.S. I am sorry if this idea offends anyone, but if it does or you want to argue it out do it with me via PM please, just so we don't clog the thread with heavy sexism/gender debate.
