  • So the below decals arrived this morning, Im still thinking about ordering the correct ones for the frame.. but I think i personally prefer this decal set. Im wondering if the general consensus be that its sacrilege to add the wrong decals for the frame.. Or thinkgin i could just keep it simple and go with the large logo on the downtube along with the headtube and the 'handmade in the USA' decal on the seatube.. All input appreciated!

    • It's only original once.
    • It's your bike.
  • ^this makes a lot of sense to me.. Paint is obviously not original, nor is the new colour one cannondale used & its most probably gonna be an aesthetic improvement on the shoddy black rattlecan job that it had before which in turn will make me want to ride it more, which is what its all about right!?

  • Yup.

  • Bollocks to period correct!

    Your decals look nicer.

  • ha! I think I'm going to stick with these, the pink will have had enough time tonight to get the decals and clearcoat on today, then it can sit for 4-5 days until the new shifters / bars / shifter mounts show up and then it will have had enough time to dry properly before building it up.. I am feeling to urge to ride this again now, so waiting another 2 weeks for decals while i have a set here may drive me crazy! I think I'm just going to keep it minimul & leave the 2.8 aluminum and r700 decals out going with the headtube, seattube and downtube logos

  • On the subject of bars, Which I'm yet to order along with a new headset.. i think i want some more compact drops, the cinelli bars i had before were a little too deep for my liking so I've been thinking about a set of soma highway one drops, has anyone else got any other recommendations for something similar in shape?

  • Made a bit of progress with this today, managed to get all the frame finishing bits & pieces on, cable guides, derailleur hanger, etc.. added some components that i could get away with for now..

Still waiting on shifters and with a bit of luck should be picking up some Bontrager shallow drop bars on sunday.

Still need headset, I just missed a black CK 1 inch threadless on ebay yesterday which was unfortunate..

Although i cleaned the cranks the scuffs and scrapes still show pretty bad but I'm not too worried, these cranks are not hard to come by so i might get some cleaner ones later on.

Was thinking about getting a black arione but i popped the Yellow concor on so i could get the seatpost in a bit easier as i had it lying around & i dont actually mind the yellow with the pink, Bars etc will most probably be black so I maybe able to get away with a touch of yellow

  • lovely work

i'd go for all silver bit's personally (I'd just pretty much copy the one further up the thread as it's a class act)

  • get some yellow bar tape to match the saddle.

  • Good work with the paint! Looking like it's going to come together nicely.

  • After what seemed like forever waiting for levers to show up in the mail they finally turned up on tuesday so i was able to finish this off (for the most part) and take it out yesterday.. still needs a better set of tyres and a different saddle. along with some angles and trimming tweaks but its super smooth.

  • Lovely job!

Odd q but what's that silver stem?

  • Thanks! Stem is just a no name cheapy. I think it was £7 in a lbs when i was still living in London and Ive used it all over the world on various bikes here and there, works fine but its a 110 and i could really do with swapping it out for a 120. Might splurge on a thomson stem and seatpost later on.

  • You have to love a cheeky rattle can job. Well done it looks awesome!

  • Any chance of a close up of the paint? Looks dead good for a rattle job.

  • Thanks! Ive never rattlecanned a frame before, lucky i had a good covered area to hang it from. I sanded back to aluminum, primed and sanded right back once, primed 2 more times, 2 or 3 (cant remember) coats of pink and 2 of clear on top of the decals.. being careful to do thin coats to avoid runs. thankfully i avoided any of those & it has turned out smooth and shiny in some areas and a little rougher in others, i don't really mind the rougher bits as i only spent $40 on paint & about $250 in total on the reno. The levers taking 3 weeks to arrive was probably a blessing as it was able to sit for that time without cranking any components on tight allowing the paint to properly dry. You can kind of see the finish in the previous posts ^up there but i will make a few adjustments to position as well as both derailleurs and take better photos next time i take it out. Heavy rain was looming yesterday so i just did a quick 40k to get the feel for it, didn't stop for long to take pictures! next time :)

  • OMG so very good.

  • Got out for a proper ride on this today to a beautiful spot & took some better pictures..
