• I wasn't saying it isn't better to have a soft pad hit you just that they don't word the inclusion feature very well.

And the reason it (edit)may(/edit) be decades away is because every accident is no longer the victims or passengers fault but one of the hundreds of contributing parties. So much legislation will have to be written to protect manufacturers so they feel its a viable investment but then who is liable, if it passes all government test and meets standards yet has and accident who do insurance companies blame, who gets taken to court? It's no longer 2 parties arguing who did what its also a massively invested firm protecting its product and reputation.

Testing on the roads is done at the moment because the testers are taking full responsibility of 1 vehicle and the condition of that vehicle.

I look forward to the day these vehicles are the primary road user and is part of why I studied as a Robotics Engineer but there's a difference between testing and mass production and the main hold back will be the law not technology.

However, I could be wrong if the government started writing these policies when it all really started to kick off, a good bench mark being the DARPA Rally challenge then policies may be in latter stages of being in place but that would imply and efficient government.
