^ Specs reasonable, good quality steel frame + fork w proven road geometry, decent wheels with sealed bearing hubs, shimano BB and brake calipers. The crankset and brake levers are probably the biggest dissapointment
It's pretty much the perfect fixed/ss winter road bike

Mudguard mounts would be a big upgrade to the Flyer. I have the blue frameset from a couple of years back. The geometry suits me well, but no proper mudguards is a drawback.

Has anyone got/tried/seen the new 2014 version? I'm thinking about it for a winter commuter. Seems a pretty good choice for the awful Surrey/Hants roads.

I'd says yes, the 25mm tyres it come with helped as well.

Flyer owners,
What is the stock bottom bracket spindle length on your bike?
Thanks
-
• #258
Which one?
-
• #259
I don't know which one it is.
Do they vary much?
It's white, got Sora brakes, 48x18, SF-MX30...Does that help?
-
• #260
Oh, and carbon forks.
-
• #261
Do they vary much?
Yes, different cranks = different BB length.

• #262
Measured it. It's 103mm.

This is my latest build on my 07Flyer. TT pad is a bit scruffy now but I love how it rides, reasonably tight angles makes it feel quick. I've ridden the velodrome in Barcelona on it, could have done with a higher gearing than the 48/17 I have on it :)

I took a ride on the 2015 flyer yesterday (from soho bikes on Berwick street, neat shop, also genesis creators will be doing a talk at the beginning of October). That's a nippy little bike. I think I prefer it to the Langster... The langster just seemed soulless, where as the flyer feels like it has some character.
The new flyer does have mudguard mounts... but like the langster, the clearances are miniscule... so I might have a look at the Day One, unfortunately the day one disc with carbon fork comes in a little over budget for me.

The new flyer have wider rims thus 25mm feel like 28mm.

I have a flyer frame on the way but the only forks I have 'spare' are surly stragglers- is this going to cause a cataclysmic change to the ride or just make the handling a bit slacker?

I was just looking through my photobucket and found this pic of how my Flyer used to look circa 2008 I think.
Thankfully it no longer looks like that, more like this now.

Thoughts on the 2016 model?

Great value for an OTP commuter/club bike, the only thing you need to do is add a fixed sprocket.

Comes with one for MY16

Can't see anything I don't like, have you been listening to me?

Ha! Sort of - not a big addition at the manufacturers' end cost-wise and its a nice bit of added convenience for the owner. You can take credit 😉

I'm after a 2014/2015 genesis flyer in 50 or 52cm . frameset or full bike considered. My back can't take the stupid low headtube on my steamroller anymore
The Ridgeback Solo was virtually identical to the old flyer, except for having clearance for mudguards, and eyelets for both guards and a rack. It sounds like the new Flyer has amalgamated both bikes. They also seem to have downgraded it even further, I dont think it offers good vfm at all really (unless Im that far behind the times).
