It's a heavy machine - about twice the weight of a gaggia classic, probs a bit too expensive to courier [I'm based in London btw]

Good deal and probably a fun project.

I'm interested more in the project side as I'm not sure how many more coffee things I need, but I just need time to research costs of parts. If someone comes in with a firm "I want it" you don't have to reserve it for me, but I'm definitely interested.

Thanks, that was interesting!
It mostly parallels my experience, though I found that severely restricting both the water and ground coffee maximizes the flavour in my case. -

It also mostly parallels my experience too, apart from the parts where they measured stuff.

In a bit of a coffee appreciation / food thread cross post....
Used leftover steamed milk in my scrambled eggs just now on the tip off of Miss Mouse. It's bloody great.

^ Ha yes, nice and souffled. I make them for my mum. Have you tried scrambling the eggs with the steaming wand yet?* ;)
I made a coffee cake the other day using a freshly made soy latte - aerating milk certainly helps keep the mixture light.
*Warning: Don't try this at home without parental supervision, kids.

How about trying it in the office?

Cracking down on my expenses this year has led me to try various supermarket coffees around the £3-5 mark. Some have been lousy, most have been completely forgettable but a couple from Waitrose get me really quite excited: Cup of Excellence and Monsooned Malabar. I actually squeaked when I saw they had the latter, unground, in a nearby store yesterday.
Quite interesting to read about the process that gives it its name: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monsooned_Malabar

some plugging.
My good friend owns Black&White coffee, a chain of coffee stands in Hammersmith market, Chatsworth road market and Broadway market. He's usually working at the stands as well.
We also joined efforts to open a shop in Hammersmith, Antipode, in Fulham Palace Road. Opening in about a months time... I think it will be the first 'good' coffee shop (as in not a massive owned chain) in the area.
Funny that he didn't know about the connection between cycling and coffee but please pop in to any of the locations!

Hi, I've been working with Jerome on the weekends, although haven't had much time to recently. Tell him Henry said hello.

Ran out of filters for my hario at work so tried it with some kitchen roll. Worked, but boy it tastes of kitchen roll.

Did you give a long pre-wet to the kitchen roll with hot water?
Would you post within UK?
