• Hi all,

I'm looking for a wheelset for touring - ideally higher quality, lighter weight but not a race wheelset. It's going on a Bob Jackson world tour frame. I'm located in Islington. I'd like the colour of set to be black. Thanks in advance.

  • Hi mate. We supply a lot of wheels to the guys on here. Do search under my name and also V-Sprint. Check out wwww.v-sprintwheels.com. Use lfgssprice for the discount code.

  • What kind of money?
Have new set of Shimano Dura Ace 7800 built onto DT swiss R.1.1, 32 spoke 3 cross pattern & includes new 10 speed 105 cassette (12-27)
Cost silly money but have just bought 11 speed gear so no longer required.
    £265 including courier

Thanks - was thinking cheaper than that considering a full ultegra wheelset on spacycles is £247 http://www.spacycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m2b17s178p1954

I'm not familiar with DT rims for touring how do they measure in terms of quality?

  • Here you go mate....We supply all or riders, sportive riders as well as few companies in Spain that hire bikes for training camps.....These. http://www.v-sprintwheels.com/pages/road-wheels-sportive-pro.html

  • I've got a set of Hope Pro 3's to Mavic open pros you can have for £150.

Good condition. Black. 32 hole. Sealed hubs. Etc....

    Perfect wheels for touring.

The R1.1 are akin to Open pros and have a great reputation but are not what you would call a classic touring rim. I run a sub 1450g 32 hole climbing wheelset using DT R1.1s on a carbon shell hubset, at 107kg I never hear a squeak out of them and remain true despite being a bit hamfisted at times..lol
So with the dura Ace hubs they are weightier (circa 1700g) and a bit more meat at the flanges, I use 32 spoke wheels for pretty much everything but if you're wanting to use really wide tyres then these aren't what you're looking for in any case (will go to 32mm tyre)

As for pricing, the Rigida's are good solid rims & inexpensive too (much less than half the price of the DT's), and the Ultegra's offer a cheaper alternate to the DA hubset for sure. The only downside in reality is an Ultegra/Chrina combo (the lightest rigida rim on offer at Spa) builds into a wheelset around 200g heavier than mine.
tbh mine don't sound what you're after

    gl finding something :o)

  • Thanks all - spoke to Dave the wheel builder at Spa Cycles and ended up getting LX17's 32spoke in front 36 spoke in back with Schwable Durano 28mm.
