Steam home streaming is now out of beta and available to everyone.
Haven't used it much myself to be honest. Performance wasn't brilliant with homeplug ethernet and I had issues trying to use a PS3 controller on windows. Concept has tons of potential tho', and the steam interface works very well in big picture mode. Might be worth another look, especially now I've got 20m of cat5e under the carpet.
