The builder's answer is more baffling than anything:
"ABW, that was the only way to use the Paul center pulls. If the brazed on stop was used, turning the bars would lock the front brake.
Paul brakes were really important to the customer. The cable stop is kind of a shame, but he's happy and I'm happy..."
Get longer cables and avoid running above the bars? Am i a moron for not understanding how it is impossible to run a longer cable without the fugly clamp and brake pulling problem?
Edit: on second look, it is a bit tight I guess but still, could have polished/sanded the fugly clamp...
