  • When Hippy starts getting under 50 minutes for 25 miles, he might consider 50km/h on the track. It might be, in Obree's words, low hanging fruit, but Hippy is only interested in stuff which is already off the tree and well fermented :-)

Fermented then bottled, shipped from the manufacturer and then chilled for some days in a pub fridge.

  • Just 2 months to go! So it's time for our annual plea for help.
Some of you will be aware others not, that the Mersey Roads 24 Hour has always been run on a subscription basis. Donations from supporters of our event enable us to keep going! If you wish to help in this manner please send a cheque to "Jon Williams, 7 St Pauls Close, Rock Ferry, Merseyside CH42 3XL"
The other area in which we always welcome continued and new support is with marshalling. If you are able to offer any time to perform a marshalling duty PLEASE get in touch. Don't worry if you have not done this before we will match you up with a suitable job. Offers of help to oggy_merseyroads at hotmail.com
Please share this post throughout the cycling community, we are very happy that people continue to support this event after so many years and would like to keep it going for many years to come!

  • This weekend's TT on the H25/1 was probably my worst effort on a 25 ever. I almost missed the start due to the canal bridge and only skidded into the starter's grip as he began my 10 second countdown. Then got stopped the first two times I passed the ped crossing, and by the time I'd vomited 3 or 4 times I figured there wasn't much point to trying to race any more.

On the same weekend a mate and rival did a long 56 in Wales so now I'm hoping to find some faster courses to try and get a ride on. Are there any threads on TTF dedicated to discussing which courses are the fast ones? I've seen comments scattered here and there but no proper discussion.

  • If you want to get in a relatively quick 25 near London on a course that isn't going to fill I'd just head to the P885/25, H10/2 until the lights appear, H25/8 or H25/17. There's no need to go all the way to Wales or Uttoxeter for the R25/3 or A25/11 courses as they have bad days as well. Obv if you're not in London then moot point.

There are loads of threads on there but people always disagree as few have ridden round the country multiple times on different days. I've ridden most and the H25/17 is deceptively fast in any conditions, but you can get stuffed on the R25/3 courses with the wind (same with the E2/25 but it's hard to get a ride on there). Loads of events (even club events I think this year) on H25/8 to have a play with. Go <60 and stick an entry in for the National 25 to give you something to aim for as well, it won't fill with a super fast qualifying time I don't think.

  • H25/8 has the virtue of being used in the afternoon, H25/2 lights are not happening so it should remain available, and the new surface between Bisham and the Thicket is super fast, H25/1 is underrated, Nik E has gone sub 20:00 on the 10 course and the bit that's in the 25 but not the 10 is the better part of the course.

All that said, the R25/3 is still 2 minutes faster than any of them on its day.

Hooray for club 25s every Tuesday a half hour drive away!

Nik E has gone sub 20:00 on the 10 course and the bit that's in the 25 but not the 10 is the better part of the course.

He's done that on the H10/1 too and that's a faster 25 than it is 10.

  • I'm finding 10mile TTs bad enough, not sure I'm ready to take the plunge & venture into 25s!

Third TT done & dusted on the J2/1. Not entirely sure how but I seem to be knocking 30 seconds off my time each time I do it. New PB is now 27:35 & really has me wondering what some aero kit would do...

  • My fastest time is on H25/8. Very windy day too.

  • H25/1 is underrated, Nik E has gone sub 20:00 on the 10 course and the bit that's in the 25 but not the 10 is the better part of the course.

He's done that on the H10/1 too and that's a faster 25 than it is 10.

Err so someone has ridden under 20 minutes on BOTH the 10 course of the H25/1, and the H10/1, and coincidentally, not only is the bit of the H25/1 that's not in the 10 the faster part, but the 25 course of the H10/1 is a faster 25 than it is a 10?

Sounds almost like they're the same thing now, doesn't it..

  • Oops, thought Tester was talking about the H10/10. My bad.

  • I'd like to see somebody get under 20:00 on the H10/10, but I think it would require Wiggins, not a domestic tester. Fastest I've seen on there is 21:19.

  • It's every Tuesday at Lee Valley Velo Park, sign up from 6.30pm, first rider off at 7pm

    Here's the Strava segment
    http://www.strava.com/segments/7206610?filter=overall

You can register your interest with joseph.mumford@virginmedia.com but you don't have to.

£5 registration for the season, £9 per ride, so £14 the first time you ride, £9 each subsequent time

Thanks for the promotion. Yes, we are back tomorrow night.

  • Thanks Fred. Will come along tomorrow to have a look and might give it a go.

  • Thanks Xav, Tester etc. I'm in Oxford so the midlands/Welsh courses aren't as far away as they are for London but hardly local.

I was planning on racing the H25/17 a couple of times this year as the HQ is 10mins from my house, but work is threatening a couple of those rides. Also planning a couple of visits to the H25/8 as there seem to be loads of races there. I'll keep my eye out for any on the H25/2 but having driven the A404 section the other day I think I'd crap myself on that descent!

  • I've done it fixed, it'll be a doddle on gears.

  • FWIW Steve Irwin coasted down it for 2min30sec during his 51min40sec ride over the weekend :D

  • That first 2:30 sounds like my kind of race..

  • The first mile is perfect for the naturally gifted descender.

  • did the lea valley 10m TT last night and thoroughly enjoyed it.
was really refreshing being able to turn up, pay your money, sign on the dotted line, collect your starter then ride.
in this day and age i'm used to having to go through countless inductions, sign waver disclaimers and pay silly amounts for 'taster' sessions.
overall i thought it was really well run and couldn't fault any aspect of it. only thing i would have liked was a noticeboard or something with the current times that had been posted.
otherwise got round in 25xx for my first 10m TT which i was happy with. will be back again next week.

Yeah I've ridden the course a couple of times, but back when I didn't train so my course PB is pretty shit. Every time I've been able to ride it, the event has been Vets only.

  • I'm sure ParcelFarce have my new brake calipers but the muppets are delivery to my office at 7pm and I'm long gone. There was an attempt the day before at 16:00 so I don't know how they failed to get that to me as I was here all day. "Delivery Attempted" = stopped somewhere for ciggie.

  • Omegas?

  • Yeah

I understand they're working on some sort of large display system for the times but I got told mine when I handed my number back.

  • oh well nevermind, was good fun nonetheless.
don't suppose they gave you break down on lap times as well would they?!
in my excitement i stupidily hit 'lap' after doing 0.5 laps, then hit it again after 3 laps, then on the 4th, then didn't hit lap again till the 8th or something. guess i don't know what i was thinking.
