They are a heavy, physical bike to ride, that's for sure. You're right, I think that they could do with being a lot lighter.
The standard Metzler tyres are fucking awful, and the handing improves massively with some Avon Roadriders on it.
Further improvements are to be found by stiffening the dampers a bit. They are adjustable, or at least they were on the 3C* bikes.
I've never thought the brakes were inadequate, however.
