i've bought a pair of the x10is from amazon - £99. i fell like a bit of a cunt for spending a bradman on in-ears that are likely for break in 6 months, but at least i can blame you, lowpug. :P

Ha, good choice. I hope they work out for you. The sound will loosen up dramatically after about 2 weeks of use. Initially they'll be a bit harsh. Also careful with the source material - 128kbps mp3 will sound a bit poo. 256 and above, i.e. most streaming services will be OK. Obvs, the higher the quality, the better. FLAC!
If the silicone tips don't work out, Comply foam tips are great, but an ongoing cost. Also, use the little box to transport them, I had a pair of X10i for 2 years no issues until i left them on plane :( Bought another set straight away.

Oh, and don't worry about the extra cash for the "i" model. According to most reviews the X10i is built better than the standard version.

BTW, they are excellent in-flight. They block out the noise beautifully.

Edit: not that they've ever been worth 149 eurobucks

It seems to work with most of the expensive ones, not seen any reviews of them around though so I'm not sure if it's a DFS style thing where the sale price is more like the realistic RRP. I do fancy some wooden ones though.

Just plugged them in and they sound better than the beats (Not hard), plus less blingy should = less temptation.

had them two days and i am pretty impressed. they are really, really comfortable - the most comfortable i have had. they do a good job of sealing my holes and blocking noise. they sound great, too, but i will wait for a bit to make my judgement.

now to see how long they last before pooing their pants.

Noone on this thread mentioned Shures? I absolutely love my 320s. Beautiful sound, awesome fit and rock solid build. Recommended.

So I got in touch with Sennheiser about warranty on my CX980s. They're still within warranty period and I found the TK Maxx receipt but got the double whammy of the important half of the ink having been rubbed off the receipt (presumably from being stuck in my wallet) that bit is basically blank, you can just about make out that they're listed on there as 'Lifestyle product'.

Sennheiser emailed back saying unfortunately that won't really cut it, but they'll offer me 35% off a new pair of headphones from their online store.

Tempted but not sure what to go for and whether I'm willing to spend enough to get proper equivalents for the CX980s. The RRP on them was £190 and I got them from TK Maxx for £77, so I know I'd have to spend a fair bit more for an equivalent product...

I've had these for about a month, I think they're good but I have unrefined ears

I've had those for about a week now - really like them.

Sound is very good; rather neutral / precise, with quite some punch.

They're very comfortable.

They seem quite well made also, the headphones themselves.
Cable (plug) looks like it will break if bent too often, but let's see.

The remote for play / pause / skip / adjusting volume is not as great as, say, the iPhone one -
it's rather big, and I have difficulties double or triple clicking the middle button; maybe it's me.

All in all very good headphones for the price, would buy again.

My Soundmagic E10s have arrived. I'm rather impressed and I'd say they stand up pretty well to my old Sennheiser CX980s.

The E10s feel like there's more clarity to the bass, the mids feel quite prominent and the treble initially sounded quite harsh. Might be my imagination but that seems to have settled down, they're definitely still clearer than the Sennheisers at the top end though. Realistically, I'd find it hard justifying paying the £190 RRP for the Sennheisers instead of £20 for the E10s.

Too early to comment on build quality but they feel pretty solid. Although they come with a plethora of tips only the very smallest fit comfortably in my ears. Maybe I have tiny ears? Might try the Comply tips at some point.

Anyway, on the strength of the E10's quality, I've ordered some Soundmagic PL50s, be interested to hear how their balanced armature model sounds and might even try to use them for monitoring.
