  • or wasnt see through

  • it's not see through - it's your imagination.

  • OK help me out here

Option A) Wheelsmith 60mm Carbon Clinchers
    ~1650g
    24mm wide
    60mm deep and torroidal
    ~£750
    Available now

Option B) Flo 30s / CX Rays / BHS superlight hubs
    ~1700g
    24mm wide
    30mm deep and torroidal
Between £400 and £600 depending on customs, postage, build costs and ancillary stuff like skewers

The weight, waiting time and uncertainty about costs are putting me off the Flo wheels at the moment, and it seems like the Wheelsmith set might be a bit faster, slightly lighter and available now. Also, no silver breaking surface...

On the downside, Gigantex / Equinox don't post wind tunnel results and I might have to specific CX Rays at additional cost.

Someone just decide for me plz.

I'm ordering the vinyl wrap this week and will probably fit it (aka fuck it up) this Saturday for a Blue Egg run on Sunday.

  • I paid $1,000 for a pair of 2014 11 speed HED Stinger 4's with ~200 miles on them, from The Paceline classifieds.

  • Wanna sell them to me?

  • Nope. But if you keep looking you will eventually get something worthwhile.

  • There were Stinger 6 FR hardly used with tubs on WW for sale $1000 posted which I found hard to pass; i think the listing is still there ..

  • Not interested in tubs, but thanks.

If everyone wants to bombard me with wide, new aero shaped, shimano 11-speed, clincher carbon wheel-set bargains then that would be appreciated.

  • Real shame that rs81 c50s don't have wide rims...

  • Depends if they're still the race wheels for now, training wheels later, because something like 60mm carbon sounds like a really bad training wheel, but 30mm flo's much better

  • +1

Get A23s built locally for training. Spend the savings on a week doing EPO in Majorca. Or beer.

Then get some dodgy tubs if you want something fast for race days.

  • Morgan item no. 331200582518 on eBay (sorry no link, in on my phone) a new spidering 50/34, might go quite cheap

Thanks very much, but I'm a committed 53/39 kind of guy.

Very kind of you to think of me though! I might have a punt for any hilly holidays.

  • Didn't your last bike had a compact chainset?

  • Didn't your last bike had a compact chainset?

Yeah, and I hated it. 34 is far too spinny to be useful in the South East. At least now I have a useful range of gears, even if I'm not in 53/11 that frequently.

  • I used to have 53/39.

I will soon have 50/34. I'm excited to not have to cross chain all the time.

  • I am happy with 50/34; 11-25 but could be happier with 12-25 (mainly for 16t) ah well another 1.5k km to go.

JB whats the latest on your dale?

    52/36 perhaps?

  • Amey, skint at the moment. Will be buying wheels at the end of the month. Hoping to have it up and running first week of June. Just depends on whether I go for factory or hand built wheels.

In no real rush tbh. Having lots of fun on the ECR :-)

  • Why would I need half and half rings? I'm absolutely fine with 53/39 and a 11-28. Will probably go 12-25 when I change cassette.

JB - do you want my Ksyrium Equipe S wheelset? I'll be selling them at the end of the month when I get new wheels. 11 speed shimano compatible, skewers tyres and all. Probably not more than 2000km on them, brake tracks are still perfect. Might even chuck in my sub 300km brake blocks if you want.

  • Compact are for mountains, maybe. We dont have mountains around here so no need.

    rode the alps on 53-39 / 11-25

Exactly. I rode Ventoux on the same gearing. TBH, I'll keep the bragging rights but this was more due to my bicycle inexperience at the time rather than a misplaced sense of hardmanship.

    .

50/34 and 12-15 wil be lighter though. Less material innit?
