  • case thrown out a day before trial - whoo fucking hoo!!!!

Well done! Must be a relief, albeit a costly one.

  • huge relief, cheers!

  • Looking for some quick lateral thinking please. My friend has just written his bike off four days before our yearly euro trip. The insurer may come through with a shitty 600cc in time but looking at options. A cursory google shows hire companies are wanting some serious deposits and weekly rates, any recommendations?

  • buy 2nd bike for £1500. put 1000 miles on it, sell it on return for £1400.

Er is it a comparable bike? Oh was the accident his fault? If not a comparable bike is allowed. You'd be amazed at what that shitty 600cc is costing the insurance.

  • when applying for the v5 bear in mind that the rightful owner will also recieve a note letting then know that somebody has tried to apply for a v5 for the vehicle.
i would let your boss know what you are doing just in case the rightful owner and your boss are best buddies and he/she takes offense to it.

in other news 'the bike shed' - cafe racer shop are having a little gathering coming up soon. anybody going?

  • ^^ thanks for the ideas chaps.

Lynx - deffo wasn't his fault, a van U-turned just around a corner near the Oval and he went square into the middle. They immediately accepted liability etc. I don't think his insurance company will give him a better courtesy bike (his is/was a kawasaki Z750) or let him take it on a foreign jaunt so his homework tonight is scouring eBay for secondhand VFRs and such like.

Or we might just borrow my mums car and pootle to the South of France but that would mean our rebooking all the ferries. Sigh.

  • ^^I'm definitely going. We broke up for holidays from work today, so I need to keep myself busy somehow.
Its run by the same people who organised the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride, which I was a bit dubious about but turned out to be a great day out.

  • tweed run© on motorcycles :-)

when are the having the next one?

  • NW200 stream. Practice on right now. Supersport, supertwin and superstock races from 6:00pm.

To update the saga. Insurer will get a courtesy Suzuki something to us in the next 24 hours however they won't insure it abroad, useful. We are thinking we swap it with another friends Africa Twin so he can still commute and we can go play. Would a full comprehensive UK policy cover you 3rd party on someone else's bike abroad? I'll let you know.

  • i sold an old bmw that i had and the buyer sent me a pic of the renovation thus far. before and after.

I'm not sure if they have announced a date yet. Last year it was at the end of September. We were really lucky with the weather, and its definitely on my list of things to do again this year, illness permitting.

  • Not that any of ya'll care but my pals insurance came good and have allowed him to take the hire bike to Europe and the ferry companies have reinstated our tickets which we'd transferred to the car. Fairy tales do come true..... unless it rains.

Looking really nice - wouldn't mind a ride on that!

  • Inchpincher - euro road trip rescued from the ashes? Living the dream, that first French lager is going to taste sweet. Nice one.

  • My friends been fixing this 37' Indian for work

Crazy old blokes with a Vincent powered nutter machine.

  • looks awesome sounds awesome, but i didnt understand a word of the last minute!

  • Had a go on a new triumph yesterday - A flat barred thruxton. Think they feel to all intents and purposes like an old 70s japanese bike. Heavy, questionable handling and crap brakes. It does make a nice noise but other than that the engine is very smooth and a bit characterless. Needs about 10hp more and 100lbs less and it would be a fun bike.

Fun ride over the mountains though - a friend of a friend turned up on a mint 48 BSA and looked like he was having a ball in the twisty bits.

    .

Haven't taken one out for a ride but did have a look & play with a 2nd hand one in the shop recently. Did think it felt a bit on the big side

  • They are a heavy, physical bike to ride, that's for sure. You're right, I think that they could do with being a lot lighter.
The standard Metzler tyres are fucking awful, and the handing improves massively with some Avon Roadriders on it.
Further improvements are to be found by stiffening the dampers a bit. They are adjustable, or at least they were on the 3C* bikes.
I've never thought the brakes were inadequate, however.

    *Clip-ons, checkerboard and carburettors
