I did 117rpm for the last 4 minutes of the H10/8 back in December off 102", and that was half as windy. I'll probably just unclip or something. Doesn't look like too much rain though

A last minute reminder, just in case any of you are still wavering

I'm in, as are a group of 4 of us training for ironman together, in what will be our unofficial club 100mile champs as well, so there is a possibility of getting on some form of podium on the day :)

I wonder if we will start seeing more riders giving up the non round chainrings:
Couldn't someone do a test with a crank with an extra magnitude of asymmetry than what the q-rings have on a normal circle and see the results on that?
If the proportions of the q-rings were perfect, wouldn't an even more squashed crank design allow the same performances as the perfectly circular one?
My guess they wouldn't work at all, just a thought...

The problem is they chose the Q Ring orientation using a Computrainer SpinScan, which is what Rotor themselves use but is absolute crap as it guesses the location of the pedal 99.7% of the time.
There's no guarantee that the setting they put the rings in (and it's not mentioned) was right for each individual athlete. Best thing to do would be a high speed video analysis and match the period of peak speed of the pedal with the highest gearing of the ring, as that's what you're trying to do really, inverting the pedal speed profile. This is a graph of pedal speed for an Osymetric vs. round ring where you can see what the Osymetric is trying to do compared with a normal ring:

Charlotteville 50 ended dramatically as my front wheel disintegrated doing 30mph down a hill. Was pretty windy, gear wasn't too bad, glad I didn't die.

Which wheel tried to kill you?

It was a Navigator 45mm, I took the trispoke off because of the wind. Started losing spokes and then the rim Pringled itself into the forks, looks like I was on for a 2:01-2:02 which I would have been pretty happy with given the conditions

The 24-spoke one? That seems unfortunate, considering how many people have no trouble with 16-spoke wheels. Oh well, at least it didn't happen when you were on a good time :-)

Thanks - it was the 16 spoke one. Next time I'll just man up and use a trispoke ;)

Before it exploded, did the Navigator actually feel any better than a Hed3? To me, it doesn't seem like it would be an improvement in a cross wind.
If I'd ridden yesterday, it would have been on Shimano RS30s, one of the reasons I DNS was that I couldn't be arsed to swap wheels just to do a slow and unpleasant ride. -

It's funny - the H3 is much more twitchy on my geared TT bike than the FGTT bike, I think it's much more a geometry thing than a size of the rider thing for a H3. In the past it's been fine on the GTT bike but I changed aero position this year and it's more unstable. I probably could have got away with it fine but bailed because the Navigator is rock solid in the wind. We had 5 RST Sport/Aero-Coach riders at the event, two had front trispokes on, two had 45mms and one guy a Zipp 202 (<67kg rider) and everyone was fine.

Second 10 mile TT yesterday on the same route. It felt shorter this time round, but the legs hurt just as much. I regretted having a couple of pints the day before & my lack of substantial food BUT somehow managed to knock 30 seconds off my time. New PB is 28:08...time to get the party hat stuck on my helmet to make it aero, make a cardboard disc wheel & gaffer tape my shorts to my jersey into some sort of skinsuit type affair.

The last sentence put a smile on my face.

^^ The more you do the more you learn how to pace yourself, so you may not be getting fitter over a couple of months weekly TTs but you can drop about 2 minutes but learning your limits. You're doing well Betty, keep it up.
I've hardly touched any of my bikes this year due to illness and loss of mojo. Sad to see the frame sat the re untouched.

Did my second ever TT at the Lea Valley Tuesday Tens last night (at the velopark) - no official results yet but if my garmin is to believed I got just over 29 mins, which I'm happy with as a baseline for the summer.

I rode it too, it was my first ever tt. A really good evening, fantastic track, fast and quite technical.

Did you miss the rain? It pissed it down the whole time I was out! Very much enjoyed it though - it's great being able to use the full width of the road and with no fear of obstacles round the corners.

Will be riding that next week. excite

I was there too, for my first ever TT. No 45. I was on the starting line and the starter tells me he thinks we've missed the rain for the evening. 2 laps in and it starts pouring! Great fun though, and looking forward to the next one to see if I can improve my time.

how does the Lee Valley course compare to Hillingdon?

Thanks for coming, I am glad you all enjoyed it.
I was the person who pushed you off at the start.
Sorry about the results. This was our first, and probably the first, big TT @ the Velopark. We are usually able to have the times up on the night but we had almost double the numbers of riders we expected and nowhere to post the results.
To put this in context, we never had more than 30 riders on Tuesday night when we were in exile at Hogg Hill and our biggest field at the Eastway was 80.
We had 86 riders last night with the last one finishing at 9 and the organisers not leaving till 9.30.The club's having a debrief tonight and we plan is to email or post online the results. So don't worry, your times will not been lost! Our timer keepers are scrupulous and can give you your Ten mile time even if you did too many laps as iI believe I heard that some riders were missing being called off. We also want to look at how that system worked as I don't think every one could hear their number being called.
We will try and get on the night results up next week. As you saw , the track side facilities are pretty basic. Ideally we 'd like to use on of the meeting rooms that are next to the track.
Please post any other comments , good or bad, here and we will consider them . PM if you want to.
Offers of help with future races would be welcome.

You did a great job, it was pretty soggy out there!
You're right, it was quite hard to hear the calls as I went past but that may have been down to the rain/wind along the back/finish straight. Maybe use a board like formula one?
Yes, that's going to be the wrong gear all the way round. I'm down for the WLCA 30, but I can't see that I'm even going to set the alarm with this forecast.
