is there any reason why such a long stem on this type of bike?
-
• #682
When I built my cargo bike, I made the trail really low, so steering feels super light, almost twitchy with no load, but loaded felt normal. Having a longer stem and nice wide bars makes it feel a bit more stable.

You can choose whatever stem you'd like on this bike. It handles well no matter how long. I bought a 80mm stem from PlanetX for this bike, but postal service didn't deliver it and ended up sending it back, so now I am waiting for PlanetX to resend it. As the guy we built it for is only 13 years old he will need a shorter stem, but as he grows he will be able to get larger stems ;-)

Id imagine one would want to keep the wheelbase as short as possible and the loading space as big as possible which would make for a long stem if needed.
Most cargo bike ive seen would require a long stem for me to fit properly but im fairly tall.

A Bullitt and a Rohloff?

Cheers. I did read somewhere that they were making Rohloff compatible dropouts but no news on them since.

Ok I found this site. They will sell me a frame with rohloff dropouts. Sweet.

Making enquiries to get one shipped over, and they're willing to drop the price from 65€ to 58€ if I were to order three or more...

I'm might stock a few as an alternative to the honeycomb boards, they're lighter too. I'll see if I can get some over next week

Hopefully getting a Dolly this summer on cycle to work (and credit card). Reasoning is, they take baby car seats and I'm about 7 months away from being able to take my baby son on the back of my cross check. I'm in York, which has an AMAZING cycling infrastructure but tiny houses, and although it is a safe city, there is a LOT of bike related crime.
My only option for locking up is on the street, any advice on the best way to do it? Thinking motorcycle chain to lamp post plus the built in Dutch lock. Movement alarm maybe? has anyone attempted to insure a street locked bike? I'm imagining it's going to be impossible...

If you have no other choice (I similarly wouldn't have anywhere indoors for a "big" bike) then it would be as many and as good locks that you can afford along with security type bolts, then hope for the best.

At least then, you can't say to yourself that you didn't try

If you do, would you be so kind as to put me down for one?
I would love to be able to hang the bike to get it out of the way but I don't think the other half would appreciate the block and tackle and holes in the wall - plus I have an adventurous three year old who would consider it some kind of new playground equipment (especially that she considers it to be her bike).
