• Yeah, vBulletin is weird, and the consistency between hacks (extensions to vBulletin) and even other forum products is horrible.

We're actually thinking seriously about renaming a lot of things in Microcosm.

Forums is better as "sections" as they'll contain more than just conversations.

Things in a section will generally be called "posts" as people are used to blog phrasing, tumblr phrasing, "make a new post", "post a video", etc... they know it's the start of a new type of conversation/thing.

So we'd rename things as "Sections that contain posts, posts can be of type event, conversation, gallery, blog entries, advert, etc, and all posts can optionally have comments".

I've already done away with "user groups" and decided each "section" has a membership that is comprised of "membership groups" which defines who is in that group and which permissions they have.

Meaning that every section (forum) has it's own ideas of who can do what. So things like the polo boards are the new default functionality. People in charge of small areas of the site, rather than me being in charge of it all.

This all makes sense... but the terminology is a nightmare. Little consistency, and so much room for confusion. We've already renamed a few things, but need to do more.
