  • Yeah that's great for you but I still have a handicap of 27.
How on earth will I be able to look anyone in the eye at lodge without spending a fortune on golf lessons when the free ones have been taken from me by hordes of salivating, golf-crazy Burundians, Omanis and Curacoans?

Not to mention those golf-crazy South American immigrants:

    They respect no borders.

  • Quite. One rarely saw such furry blighters when the birch and the tawse were in regular usage.

  • Jeez. (I can't believe I'm entering into this). The above was a response to a leaflet which massively exaggerated the perceived problem. If perception is the issue then taking them up on the misappropriation of information is wholly appropriate. Information > bullshit. It's a win because the facts beat the presumptive arsing about.

  • Don't forget that in the world of Jeez; common sense > science and statistical analysis

  • No. The post showed us that bullshit, panicky rhetoric does not a manifesto make and that even Ukip's single presentable policy is built on hot air and is immediately flawed when confronted with actual facts and the complexities of a global society.

  • Jeez, I'm not really sure of the point you're trying to make, it all seems a bit confused.

  • That isn't meant as a dig, more as an invitation to clarify how you think that an attempt to publicly show up a completely bigoted, ill informed, potentially dangerous organisation as the morons they are can be anything but positive.

  • Jeez is a results man. Results for under £25.

  • On this one I'm with Jeez. UKIP are a symptom not the problem and whilst it might be satisfying to highlight their stupidity, I'm not sure it actually achieves anything with the audience to which their messages are targeted - UKIP they have no interest in what reasonable, intelligent people might think - they know those people won't vote for them. I'm quite sure that UKIP at the higher levels are quite well aware of the truth about their position, but they continue because it works for them.

  • and I strongly suspect that those who do support them do not give a shit about the facts

  • perception my arse, people are supporting UKIP because they are being told 'facts' which reinforce their bigoted world view - when those 'facts' are put under scrutiny and fall apart, that is very powerful

  • Apparently the incorrect facts are nonetheless legitimate concerns which are based on perceptions which are facts which need to be addressed by the main stream parties.

I think it's a call for some sort of "feelings-based" policy initiative.

  • Bigoted people will pay attention to anything that reinforces their world view. Facts which disprove their world view are, on the whole, ignored.

UKIP are the Top Gear of the political world.

  • This just in - we all spend most of our time in echo chambers of our own opinions and prejudices.

  • Which is pretty much what everyone has already written.

I bet you just enjoyed hearing yourself say that. :)

  • ^^ quote your sources

(I've just spent 5 mins trying to find a barely-remebered article which basically says ^^ & ^^^, if it had been more emotive and less factual I might actually have found it?)

I'm part duck, you insensitive clod.

Google "cognitive dissonance in politics" and I'm sure you'll find plenty.

Someone please rep TW2 for this.....I'm all out of rep for him.

  • yes UKIP are certainly gaining support with the 'telling it like it is' contingent.

unfortunately, telling it like it is isn't the full picture

  • There are enough houses, a lot of them are empty.

  • Slight simplification.

  • Kill the rich!

  • Truth - "It is clear that there is a housing crisis in London and the South East, and that crisis is linked to the relationship between population and nos. of houses, and the population is linked to net migration, and net migration can be reduced by reducing immigration. This does not mean that we should close our borders but it does mean we should acknowledge that issues such as housing and immigration are linked and that the choices are simple - build more houses, consider ways of controlling population (shutting the borders is probably more acceptable than slaughtering babies) so we don't need so many houses or just say 'fuck it, if the poor live in overcrowded expensive housing then fuck 'em'. UKIPs policies are racist or damn close but they do at least have the decency to acknowledge an issue which the mainstream parties don't."

Putting "truth" in front of something doesn't make it so.
