    There was an interesting piece on R4 whilst driving up yesterday.
    It was about:

    Which was used to find an Air France downed plane, which was found, but the people involved described that as pure luck. In a search area which is " 'easier' due to the flatter sandier bottom" and a quarter of the size.... And that took 2 years.

    Fast Co Labs have been running a very interesting series of articles breaking down ways of predicting where the plane might be if you're so inclined.
